  • Liberal Democrats fielded their Welsh leader Jane Dodds
  • Brexit Party gained strong support in Brecon and Radnorshire
  • Chris Davies has been reselected by Tory to fight the by-election

A by-election will take place in Brecon and Radnorshire on August 01, after Tory MP Chris Davies was removed from office. Bookmakers suggest Liberal Democrats are the favourites to win the by-election. However, there is another strong challenger, Nagel Farage’s Brexit Party. You should consider placing a bet on the first Brexit Party MP to represent Brecon and Radnorshire constituency.

The Brecon and Radnorshire by-election was triggered after 10,005 people signed a petition to unseat Conservative MP Chris Davies. The petition came after Mr. Davies was convicted of a false expenses claim in March. According to online sportsbook news in the UK, seven parties will field candidates to run in the election. Yet, on paper, it will be a tightly-fought battle between the Liberal Democrats and the Brexit Party.

Although Brecon and Radnorshire is traditionally fertile ground for the Lib Dems, Brexit Party might push through and win the seat. According to our analysis, it is worth placing a bet on the first Brexit Party MP to be representing Brecon and Radnorshire.

Lib Dems fielded their Welsh leader Jane Dodds

LibDems hope Jane Dodds can beat the Brexit supporters

Liberal Democrats have held Brecon and Radnorshire seat at Westminster from 1997 until the 2015 general election. The constituency has always been fertile ground for Lib Dems. Thereby, the party hopes to retain the seat fielding its Welsh leader Jane Dodds. Ms. Dodds was previously a councilor in London and was a candidate in Montgomeryshire in 2015 and 2017. Lib Dems have selected one of their strongest candidates, hoping to win the by-election with 1/5 odds at Unibet Sportsbook

Brexit Party has strong support in Brecon and Radnorshire

The Brexit Party intends to contest the seat. The candidate is yet to be announced. However, the Party confirmed it will name a local candidate with a strong anti-establishment and pro-Brexit voice. The Brexit Party gained strong support in Brecon and Radnorshire, winning the most votes in 2019 European Parliament election. Whereas, Lib Dems came second in Powys county, with just 4,000 votes behind. That being said, you can bet on the first Brexit Party MP to come from Brecon and Radnorshire with 13/2 at Unibet Sportsbook.

Tory reselected Chris Davies to fight the by-election

Chris Davies to win after being sacked?

Despite being sacked by his constituents, the Conservative Party has reselected Chris Davies to fight the by-election. Mr. Davies won the seat in 2015 and retained it at the 2017 general elections. He was removed from office after being convicted due to splitting £700 between two office budgets by creating fake invoices. As a result, Mr. Davies was found guilty. He was fined £1,500 and told to carry out 50 hours of community service. Mr. Davies hopes to retain his seat with 13/2 odds, but it is hard to see how he can regain people’s confidence.

Labour came third in the 2017 election

The Labour Party chose Tom Davies to run in the by-election. Tom is currently a town councilor in Brecon and works as a Litigation Officer for a company based in Cwmbran. Labour has previously received only 7,335 votes and came third in 2017, and it is unclear whether the Party became more popular since then. Online sportsbooks in the UK suggest Labour Tom Davies stands at 33/1 odds, but he will unlikely win the election.
