The longlist for this year’s Booker Prize has been announced last week including 13 possible winners. It includes the best novels selected by a panel of five judges including Lee Child and Margaret Bushby. You can already bet on the Booker Prize winner where Hilary Mantel’s historical novel and Gabriel Krauze’s autobiographical novel are the top favourites.

Update: In the shortlist of the 2020 Booker Prize  we can find only one of the top favorites  below. Tsitsi Dangarembga’s novel, This Mournable Body which has the odds of 4.00 now to win the award. One of the main favorites is Douglas Stuart’s debut, Shuggie Brain with the odds of 3.00. It tells the story of a boy who stays with her mother in spite of her alcohol issues in a small mining town. Picturing poverty and the limits of love perfectly. While Ethiopian Maaza Mengiste’s novel, The Shadow King is also a potential winner. Her book is about Ethiopian women soldiers who tried everything against the Italian army in 1935. The main character, Hirut even disguised a peasant as the emperor and became his guard. The African novel’s odds is 3.74 to win this year’s Booker Prize.

The Booker Prize, formerly known as the Booker-McConnell then the Man Booker Prize awards the best original novel written in English and published in the United Kingdom. Until 2014 only novels written by Commonwealth, Irish and South African citizens could win the prize. But in 2014 it was extended to any novels written in English. In the previous winners we can find the greatest writers from Salman Rushdie to J.M. Coetzee, Ian McEwan to Julian Barnes. Last year Margaret Atwood was awarded for her latest novel The Testaments along with Bernardine Evaristo for her experimental novel, Girl, Woman, Other. Now the long list of 13 novels have been revealed. The shortlist of six books will be announced on the 15th of September and we have to wait until November to get to know the winner.

Bet on the Booker Prize winner where Hilary Mantel is the favourite again

Online gambling sites in the UK are offering the smallest odds, 4.50 at 1xBet for the victory of Hilary Mantel and her novel, The Mirror and the Light. She has already won the prize twice before with the first two parts of the trilogy. Now the final part is nominated. It’s about the final years of Thomas Cromwell who rose to power and wealth from being a son of a blacksmith. As the previous parts, Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies, the book is another masterpiece. It tells the story of one of the most powerful men in England in the 16th century and his fall in an entertaining and gripping way.

Let’s read!

One of the biggest rivals of Mantel can be a young writer with Polish origin. Gabriel Krauze with his first novel, Who They Was. In his biography he tells about his violent past involving crime and gangs growing up in South Kilburn. A life where he was part of robberies, involved with drugs and guns. While he was also a student at Queen Mary’s University. The honest and bold account of Krauze’s life is very powerful and might win the judges over. He has the odds of 5.50 at 1xBet to win the award.

Other nominees include debut novelists

As we can see,  relatively unknown authors can also be nominated for the award. One of them is Kiley Reid who released her debut novel, Such a Fun Age this year. It’s about the relationship of two women, a white blogger and her black babysitter, who is accused of kidnapping by a security guard in the supermarket. Her employee, Alix tries to make it right but only makes everything worse. It’s topic is very actual but also looks for answers in a refreshing and often humorous way. Her odds to win is 8.00 at 1xBet.

Just like Zimbabwean Tsitsi Dangarembga who is author of two previous novels. One of them called Nervous Conditions has won the Commonwealth Writers’ Prize. Her latest novel, This Mournable Body is also a final part of her trilogy. It tells the story of Tambu, a middle aged woman who lost all hope for a better life.
