Though the short-term fluctuation in Bitcoin’s worth can be huge – compared to other currencies – it’s still worth a lot. Let’s take the last few days of Bitcoin for an example. On Tuesday, October 17th, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) published a report, concerning Bitcoin.

The CFTC, whose mission is to “foster open, transparent, competitive, and financially sound markets,”  points to operational, cybersecurity, and speculative risks. Obviously, this signaled that the cryptocurrency is likely to end up under the microscope of regulators and this signal triggered an 8% drop in Bitcoin price, the largest since China’s crackdown on the currency in September. While these are considerable slumps, Bitcoin has rebounded extremely fast in both cases.

Bitcoin as Commodity

Bitcoin is both a currency and a commodity. You can pay with at companies that accept it just like you can use US Dollars for payments. At the same time, you can look at it as an investment, like buying gold. It’s price is usually on the uphill, so there are many investors who like the idea of buying Bitcoin. However, as with every other cryptocurrency, the future and lasting effect of Bitcoin is questionable. That being said, it’s not surprising that some are not confident in buying some.
