Betfair enters a sponsorship deal with German football club from fourth division

Following the European Commission’s decision to support Betfair by criticizing the draft German gambling laws, the sportsbook signed a sponsorship contract with a German 4th division football team.

Betfair logo will be proudly displayed on Türkiyemspor Berlin football club, playing in fourth division of the Bundesliga. The sports club’s multi-cultural history dates back to 1978. The club primarily caters towards the Turkish immigrant community in Germany.

Betfair’s sponsorship deal comes ahead of changes to German gambling laws and is favorably viewed by game analysts. Even though branding is an important business concept, Betfair’s choice of a football club is raising eyebrows.

Peter Reinhard, Betfair’s regional manager for Central Europe told online gambling news in Germany: “Türkiyemspor has worked hard both in the field of athleticism and in working for tolerance and integration within and beyond the local community. For us they are more than a football club. We specifically chose to sign with a sports club and not a professional football club.”

Mr. Reinhard went on to say: “Without a foundation of sports clubs like this, there would be no professional football clubs. We are very pleased to be the new sponsors of such a special sports club and for the role we will play in helping this club move forward from the troubles of last season.”

Türkiyemspor’s chairman, Yalcin Sancar, commented the deal: “Our partnership with Betfair Sportsbook in the new season is an important and successful step for us. We are leaving behind the disappointment of last season. We must lay the foundation for a successful and sustainable future together – we must build that future together for the success of Türkiyemspor.”

“Signing a sponsorship contract with an internationally successful organization is another important step in multi-cultural bridge building for Türkiyemspor and it is a sign of our appeal,” he concluded.
