Even though this year was a strange and shortened season with many events being canceled, we could still witness some great moments.
Everyone thought that the 2020 Olympic Games would be the biggest sporting event of the year. But unfortunately, it had to be postponed just like many other tournaments. After a three-month break luckily most sports could re-start again in the summer. Thanks to that we could still watch most of the biggest sport events from home. Like the Formula 1 and MotoGP world championships, the US Open and the French Open, or the Champions League. Let’s see the winners of these events now.
Biggest Sports Victories in 2020 include Hamilton’s 7th F1 World Championship Title
One of the greatest achievements of 2020 belongs to Lewis Hamilton who won his seventh world title this year equaling the record of Michael Schumacher. The British driver also broke the German legend’s record of most wins (92) and holds the record with 95 now. He was as confident as before winning 10 out of 17 races in the season. Thanks to his superb driving skills and almost perfect racing car. Mercedes also won their seventh consecutive Constructors’ Championship titles becoming the first team to do so. In MotoGP, the 2020 season was a much more surprising year with several new race winners and podium finishers. Unbeaten Bayern, Premier League Champions Liverpool
Bayern Munich’s sensational performance in the 2019-20 Champions League season also belongs to the biggest sports victories in 2020. They won the league after winning all of their games and defeating Paris Saint-Germain in the final 1-0 in the Estadio da Luz in Lisbon. One of their biggest victories was their 8-2 win against FC Barcelona in the quarter-finals. Besides their Champions League trophy, Bayern also won the Bundesliga and German Cup titles, becoming the second team to win the treble twice. Fans could see brilliant performances from all team members, including Robert Lewandowski, who was voted the Best Player of the Year by FIFA and UEFA.
While in the Premier League Liverpool FC won their first title since 1990. Jurgen Klopp’s side was also unstoppable most of the season and won the league with a massive, 18-points lead ahead of Manchester City. They lead the table again but in a much more balanced season, only three points ahead of current second Leicester City. He has become the only player to win three NBA championships with three different clubs and often mentioned as the greatest player of all time. In the extended NHL season Tampa Bay Lightning defeated Dallas Stars in the final and won their second title. While in MLB the Los Angeles Dodgers won their first title since 1988.

At the beginning of the year, Novak Djokovic won his eighth Australian Open title. While we could witness a new champion at the women’s tournament. Sofia Kenin won her first title there defeating Garbine Muguruza in the final. After a long break and the cancellation of this year’s Wimbledon, the season continued with the US Open where Dominic Thiem got his first Grand Slam title. In the women’s event, Naomi Osaka defended her title defeating Victoria Azarenka in the final.
In the French Open we could witness another historic moment when Rafael Nadal won his 13th Roland Garros title. The Spanish top player defeated Novak Djokovic with a brilliant play in the final and achieved his 20th overall GS title. A surprise player, Polish Iga Swiatek won her maiden title defeating Sofia Kenin in the final. She is the first Polish player to win a Grand Slam and the second player born in the 21st century to win a GS title.
