What is the Brazilian Women's National Championship Serie A1?

The Brazilian Women's National Championship, or Serie A1, is the top level of professional women's football in Brazil. The tournament is becoming a hugely popular event that has an ever growing fan base.

Women's football in Brazil took a long time to become mainstream and gain any attention from TV broadcasters and football fans. There were no official leagues and it took a long time for female footballers to receive any kind of funding. Women's football was in fact illegal in Brazil until 1983, and when it was legalised, then a tournament was formed, called the Women's football Brazil Trophy. This tournament was renamed to the Torneio Nacional in 1990 and Taça Brasil de Clubes in 1993. The tournament had to be folded in 2001 after a lack of funding. This left the country with state leagues and no official national league for women's football. In the mid 2000s, there was an attempt to create a national league, though it was only played in the Sao Paulo state and in multiple towns of the Rio de Janeiro state.

Despite this, the women's national team was establishing itself as a formidable force, with players such as Marta and Cristiane. They even made it to the finals of the 2004 and 2008 Olympics women's football tournament.

In 2013, the Brazilian Football Confederation established the Serie A, a national short league that runs for 3 months, followed by the playoffs. Women's football in Brazil has hence become more popular nationally.

16 teams play in the Serie A1, which is the top flight of Brazilian women's football. There are a further two leagues, the Serie A2 and Serie A3, in which 36 and 32 teams play. In the Serie A1, the 16 teams play in a robin round league, meaning each team will play 15 league matches. At the end of the regular season, the top 8 teams proceed to the playoffs. The playoffs are played in an elimination round format, starting from the quarter finals and proceeding to the finals. Each round is played over two legs, using the away goal rule if there is a tie, and extra time and penalties if the game is still a tie.

The finals are also played over two legs, with the winner becoming the new champion of the Serie A1.

The Corinthians have won the league the most, with three wins, followed by Ferroviaria with two wins and Rio Preto, Centro Olimpico, Flamengo and Santos with one win each.

How to bet on the Serie A

According to online sportsbook sites in Brazil, such as 22Bet Sportsbook, you will find a variety of betting markets available for Brazilian women’s football matches and leagues. That includes the following:

Match Result

For all games, bets can be placed on one of the teams to win the game or for the game to end in a draw. The team with the lower odds is the favourite to win, and the team with higher odds is the underdog.

Double Chance

When the teams playing are more evenly matched, then it may be worth looking at the odds offered for double chance bets. These are two way bets, that cover a team to win the game or draw, the bet can be placed on either home team to win or draw, or on the away team to win or draw. While the odds offered are lower than a direct bet on which team will win, they offer more safety.

Handicap Bets

Punters who want to increase their odds may explore the range of bets with handicaps. Handicaps of -1.5, -2.5 and more can be set on a team, meaning they will have to win the game by at least 2, 3 or more goals. Alternatively, positive handicaps can be used such as +1.5, +2.5 and so on. These can be placed on the underdog, meaning they can still win the bet if they do not lose by more than 1, 2 or more goals.

Over/under Bets

There are many bets available in the over/under category. These are not directly related to the match result, they instead rely on certain game statistics. Aspects such as how many goals will be scored in a game, how many corners will be won, how many fouls, how many suspensions and more, may have over/under bets. A value for each criteria will be given, and there will be a bet for more goals, corners, fouls, etc, will be scored or won, and a bet for less of goals, corners, fouls etc, will be scored or won during the game.

Game Props

There are a number of bets that focus on more specific aspects of each game, offering fans huge odds and even more excitement. Game props may involve some bets such as a certain player to score in the match, will there be a penalty, will the game have an even or odd number of goals, correct score prediction and many more.

In addition to these bets, there are a number of combined bets that mix up some of the other bets mentioned previously. These may include bets such as a team to lose the first half but win the game, a team to win the game scoring under 2.5 goals, the match to end in a draw with over 1.5 goals from both teams and more.

These bets not only pay very well, but they can make matches even more interesting, as fans can back their team but also keep an eye on the scoreline, making the contest even more rousing.

What is the Copa Libertadores Femenina?

The Copa Libertadores Femenina is an annual football competition that is played by the best women's football teams in South America. The competition is currently the only international club competition organised by the South American Football Federation (CONMEBOL) for women's football. The competition was created in 2009, after approval from the CONMEBOL, and has gone on to spark huge interest in women's football in the continent. Since 2019, clubs are not allowed to play in the men's Copa Libertadores if they do not also have a women's team, this law was put in place to strengthen the women's competition.

In the current format, a total of 16 clubs can qualify for the event, from 10 football associations in South America. The 16 teams are split into four groups of 4, and then all teams play three matches against the other 3 teams in their group. At the end of the group stage, the winners and runners up of each group proceed to the knockout round. These start from the quarter finals , semi finals and then the finals.

Teams that play in the competition, or can play in the qualification rounds leading up to the competition, come from the top leagues in Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Bolivia, Ecuador, Paraguay, Uruguay and Venezuela.

The top goalscorers in the competition include the Brazilian Cristiane, who scored a record 15 goals in the inaugural season, 10 of which came from two games; Santos vs EnForma Santa Cruz that ended 12-0 and Santos vs Caracas, that ended 11-0. She went on to become top goalscorer again in 2012 with 7 goals. Venezuelan football player Ysaura Viso won the competition twice and so has Victoria, who plays for the Brazilian team Corinthians.

How to bet on the Copa Libertadores Femenina

Football betting is a huge market that is enjoyed by many fans around the world. To place bets on favourite teams, or backing favourite players is a great way of adding to the excitement each match brings. The Copa Libertadores Femenina is no different, with a huge range of betting options available for each match.

Outrights

For football fans who cannot wait to get in on the action, there are outright bets where a bet can be placed on a team to win the competition outright. This bet will be available long before the competition starts, and the odds are usually better before the competition commences.

Match Result

When the competition starts, each match will have a huge variety of bets. The most straightforward bet is the match result, where a bet can be placed on either team to win or for the match to finish in a draw.

Double Chance

Double chance bets are safer options when it comes to a game between two evenly matched teams. The double chance is a two way bet, where there is an option to bet on the home side or a draw, and the away side or a draw. The bet covers a draw either way, so fans do not need to worry about a late equaliser ruining the bet. This bet is safer to place than a match result bet, but it comes at reduced odds.

Halves

Matches can be divided into halves, and fans can bet on a team to win one of the halves, or for it to end in a draw. These bets are popular because they may be easier to predict than a full match result, and pay out in half the time.

Handicap Bets

Handicaps can be set on either team, these can be either positive or negative. Handicaps such as -1.5, -2.5, -3.5 and more can be set on a team, meaning they will have to win the game by scoring 2, 3 , 4 or more goals than their opponent. Negative handicaps increase the difficulty of winning the bet, but offer significantly higher odds. Positive handicaps can also be set in the same way as the negative ones, these will reduce the betting odds but are far easier to win.

Over/under Bets

The over/under market offers an extensive selection of bets that relate to certain aspects of each match. These bets are not directly affected by the match result, they depend on specifics such as how many goals will be scored, number of fouls, corners, shots on target and more.

Each bet will have a value, in the case of total goals scored, this will be a value for the total number of goals scored by a team. A number is presented, such as 4.5, and there will be a bet for the match to finish with more goals and a bet for the match to finish with less. Each bet comes with a range of values, so there can be over/under 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 goal bets, where the odds on either over or under will reflect how likely the possibility of the game finishing with the required number of goals.

Many More Markets

There are many more football bets that can be placed on each game in the competition. These can include very specific bets such as correct score, will there be a penalty, will there be a headed goal and more. They can also include combinations of other bet types, such as a team to win the first half and score over 3.5 in the game, a team to lose the first half but win the game, the game to end in a draw at full time with under 1.5 goals and many more.

It is worth looking through all the different bets offered, as there are some with massive odds and can add to the entertainment factor that each game brings.
