Football punters switch their attention to Europa League after two days of Champions League betting.

The Champions League events of the week are now over, and punters can safely switch their attention to betting on Europa League group matches under British gambling laws. It’s the second round and some teams need to pick up the pace following their disappointing openers, while the others will be looking to extend their point advantage in the groups.

While there are 24 matches scheduled for tonight, we will be focusing on just one, which is promising to bring the most value judging by the odds at online sportsbooks in the United Kingdom. It’s the Tottenham v Besiktas fixture, where both teams need a win to prove their group favorites’ status.

Previous matches and standings

Europa League group matches have prepared an interesting fixture to watch and bet on tonight

Online sportsbooks in the UK provide a long list of betting odds

• Tottenham take on Besiktas on White Hart Lane hoping for all three points

• Both teams have only managed a draw in their opening matches

The Spurs have traveled to Belgrade to face Partizan in the previous round and have failed to score ending the match in a goalless draw. Besiktas were hosting the Greek side Asteras, and while they were already leading 1-0 in the first half, the Greeks managed to equalize in the last minutes of the match, forcing the Turkish side to be content with a single point.

These results bring Group C to a standstill where every team has a single point. But obviously Asteras and Besiktas are up front after having scored one goal apiece. Before the start of the campaign it was clear that Tottenham and Besiktas are the favorites to qualify for the knockouts, and this situations hasn’t changed much. Tonight’s fixture is of course the battle of giants, thus providing extra excitement to those who bet on sports in the UK.

Trivia about the upcoming match

The teams have already met in European competitions: back in 2006 they were in the same UEFA Cup group, but only played once because the format was different. Tottenham prevailed 2-0 in that fixture, playing away we must add. Tonight’s fixture will take place at White Hart Lane providing the Spurs with some extra advantage.

Mauricio Pochettino’s squad have won 10 and lost just one of their last 13 home games in European competitions. Besiktas on the other hand were unlucky to exit Champions League qualifiers falling to Arsenal on a 0-1 aggregate score.

Tottenham failed to show any particular sharpness on the attack in Belgrade, and it’s safe to assume things will not be much different this time around either. However, the 1-1 draw in the Northern London Derby with Arsenal will boost their confidence and just might provide enough of an edge to beat the Turkish side.

Besiktas defense is particular hard to break, and Slaven Bilic’s team have only conceded over a single goal in just one out of their 18 matches. On the other hand, Tottenham can find solace in the fact that Besiktas have only scored 5 goals in seven previous matches.

Tottenham v Besiktas betting odds

Considering all the above-mentioned, it’s no surprise that Bet365 favors the Spurs to win tonight with a line of 1.70 compared to long odds of 5.50 for the visiting side and 3.90 for the draw. The odds for the tie are a bit on the long side, and could be a smart bet for many punters considering that both teams are not very keen on scoring.

Also unsurprisingly, the 1-1 draw is the most favorable prediction paying at 7.00, the same odds give for a 1-0 Tottenham success. Interestingly enough, the 2-0 in favor of the Spurs is also highly likely with 7.50 odds from Bet365, but 3-0 success is already too far away with a line of 12.00. As for Besiktas, their 1-0 win pays at 15.00, while 2-0 success is virtually impossible with a line of 29.00.

Although none of the teams are obvious favorites to score a lot of goals, Tottenham men are more favored to do so. Thus Emmanuel Adebayor is number one in line to score first with 4.75 odds, followed closely by Harry Kane and Roberto Soldado both priced at 5.00. Erik Lamela got a line of 7.00 to open the scoresheet, while Joe Paulo Paulinho had to settle for 7.50 odds and Andros Townsend got 8.50.

As for the Besiktas squad, the most probable candidate to find the back of the net first is Demba Ba with 9.00 odds from Bet365, followed by Cenk Tosun at 10.00 and Mustafa Pektemek priced at 11.00 odds. Olcay Sahan got 17.00 to put his name on the scoreboard first and Gokhan Tore is priced at 21.00.

An interesting selection of Scorecast Odds is also available at Bet365. Adebayor to score first and the Spurs to win 1-0 will pay at 17.00, which could be a very rewarding bet, considering there are a lot of chances this scenario will come true. In case Adebayor opens the score and Tottenham win 2-1 the payout will already be 26.00. Should Harry Kane be the first goalscorer and the Spurs win 2-1, Bet365 will pay at massive 31.00 odds.
