The first-ever event was held back in 1860 on the 19th of October. Can you imagine that? It means that it’s over 150 years old! However, back in the day, it was a bit different. For one thing, it was held in Scotland at the Prestwick Golf Club. Also, why it was different that golf was an entirely different sport. Bakc then in the mid 19th-century golf was. mainly played by gentlemen with a bigger fortune and not played by the common people. Today golf can be played by anyone and not just by a small gorp of individuals. So back then, it wasn’t so big of a competition and was very popular.

When it all started back in 1860, the tournament only accepted a few people and wasn’t really open to everyone. It was a year later when they decided to open it up to even non-professionals. He has won the Open Chamins ip six times. That is great, right? However, when you look at the dates, you would see that back then, only people from Great Brittain competed, and there weren’t as many professionals. However, it is still spectacular. He won the Open Championship in 1914, 1911, 1903, 1899, 1898, and 1896. Also, if the tournament wasn’t paused because of World War I, he might have even won it more times. He was also a member of the great Triumvirate with John Henry Taylor and James Braid. They won 16 tournaments out of 21. 

Who Was the Oldest and the Youngest Winner?

Last but not least, let’s discuss the oldest and the youngest winner of the Open Championship. It’s always amazing to see the average age of the winners of a certain sports event and then check out who was the oldest or the youngest to win; first of all, let1S se the oldest winner of all time. It was “Old” Tom Morris who won at the age of 46. He did that back in 1867. Now let’s see the youngest winner. Here comes the surprise. It was his son, who was named “Young” Tom Morris. So we actually have to Tom Morrisis winning this tournament. What makes it even more interesting is that he won the same tour just a year later, in 1868. And how old was he back then? He was only 17 at that time. amazing, right?
