5. Andy Murray, the First British Winner Since 1936

We all know that Wimbledon is a British tournament, but male British tennis players weren’t so successful from 1936 to 2013. Why? Because in these 77 years, they haven’t won a single time. The last winner was Fred Perry in 1936. Andy Murray was the one who ended this unlucky era after he defeated Novak Djokovic in the final. It was quite an easy game for Murray, Djokovic has played so much better than this. However, Murray won three sets and Djokovic none. With that, he ended the 77 years long waiting.

4. John McEnroe “You cannot be serious!”

John McEnroe is known for being one of the best tennis players ever in history and he won a lot of trophies. This moment is not popular because he played well. These words are known because it was a funny moment and became iconic. McEnroe was playing against Tom Gullikson in 1981. McEnroe served, but the umpire said it was an out. McEnroe started to argue with the umpire because he saw that the serve was good and shouted the famous sentence “You cannot be serious!” and he became very angry. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ransFQVzf6c Even after this little comedy, he still won the game, and after that, he won the trophy. This sentence became very iconic, and he has said it a lot more times, even as a tennis commentator after that, and that’s why it’s in the top 5 Wimbledon moments.

3. Roger Federer Made History

Before we talk about why Roger Federer is in the top 5 Wimbledon moments, take a look at the online sportsbooks in the US.  Federer won the Wimbledon men’s singles trophy 5 times straight from 2003 to 2007, and he won it 2 times more until 2012. But after that, he didn’t win it for 4 years. He was unlucky and got a bad knee injury, so it wasn’t sure that he could win it again. At this time, he had 7 wins, so he was one win away from being the first one who wins 8 Wimbledon trophies in men’s singles ever. However, in 2017 he went to the final, and his opponent was Marin Cilic. After a great match, he won, and he made history with that. He will probably be the only one who won 8 times in men’s singles at Wimbledon.

2. Federer-Nadal Final

I think all the tennis fans can agree that this iconic match has to be on the top 5 Wimbledon moments list. This was in 2008 and one of the best matches ever. It was 4 hours and 48 minutes long, so it was a really long match. The rain stopped the final 2 times, so you can see that it was a struggle for both of them. But the big question is, who won? Before we give you the answer, don’t forget to check out the online sportsbooks in the US. This time Federer had won it 5 times straight in the last year, and Nadal is not known for being so good on grass right? But Rafael Nadal won it! With that ended Federer’s streak in Wimbledon. The sets were these: 6-4; 6-4; 6-7(5); 6-7(8); 9-7 for Nadal. After that, you can see it was a really balanced match.

1. Boris Becker the Youngest Champion

This man needs to be on the list of top 5 Wimbledon moments. This 17-year-old German player won Wimbledon and became the youngest man who won a tennis grand slam. It was nearly a miracle that he made it into the final, and he even won it.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKSjYaRAwgk In the final, he played Kevin Curren again in 1985 when he won the trophy he was unseeded, which means that he wasn’t on ATP ranking so this is amazing. After that, he won another three Wimbledon trophies and became a famous tennis player. He was the coach of Novak Djokovic too. This win was a great start for his career.

Summary

These were the top 5 Wimbledon moments! Of course, there much more iconic moments that we love to remember of. The next Wimbledon is close, and we hope that we can see some interesting moments and great plays. If you want to bet, check out 22BET Sportsbook for the best odds!
