  • F1 Italian Grand Prix is held this Sunday, 12th of September in Monza
  • Sprint Qualifying will be held on Saturday for the second time after Silverstone
  • Max Verstappen leads the championship three points ahead of Lewis Hamilton

After Max Verstappen’s glorious victory on home soil in front of the cheering Dutch fans, the Red Bull driver will aim for a similar result in Monza. While the 7-time world champion Lewis Hamilton wants to take back the lead in one of his most successful tracks. The F1 Italian GP winner odds slightly favor the Mercedes driver but Verstappen follows him closely.

The Italian Grand Prix in Monza is one of the most legendary circuits in Formula 1 history. The first race was held 100 years ago, in 1921. It is one of the two Grand Prix besides the British GP that has been holding a race in every F1 season since 1950. So victory here is even more precious with the most successful drivers, Michael Schumacher and Lewis Hamilton having the most wins (5) so far. Ferrari has had the most wins with 20 in the history of the race. They got their last victory two years ago thanks to Charles Leclerc. While Pierre Gasly was last year’s winner after he found himself in the lead in a memorable race. This year the Grand Prix will be special again due to its sprint race on Saturday, which takes place after the qualifying on Friday.

Hamilton and Verstappen are Head-to-Head in the F1 Italian GP Winner Odds

At the moment Max Verstappen leads the drivers’ championship. But only three points ahead of Lewis Hamilton. He has already won in Monza on five occasions, the last time in 2018. The Mercedes driver finished second in the previous race in the Netherlands after his car lacked the speed of Red Bull. Now the team must improve on their times to be able to catch Verstappen in Monza who took over the lead in the championship with his latest two wins. Of course, no one should underestimate Hamilton, who has been brilliant most of the time and won four races this season.

This is the tightest year since 2016 where still any of the two top drivers can win. It is shown in the F1 Italian GP winner odds too which offer almost the same odds for their victories. Online sportsbooks in Italy still slightly favor Hamilton with the odds of 2.00. But Verstappen follows him closely with the odds of 2.10. The young Dutchman seems to reach his best form this season after winning 7 races already. Without his crash with Hamilton in the British Grand Prix and tire issues in Azerbaijan, he could be leading even more. But now Verstappen must focus on the next race and aim for his first victory in Italy. Where his best result so far has been a fifth-place finish in 2018.

Can Anyone Else Get the Win?

The chances for any other drivers getting the win are quite low. But it could still happen like last season when Pierre Gasly got the win with Alpha Tauri in a thrilling race. Where the safety car came in twice, mixing up the standings and resulting in a penalty for Hamilton. Both Ferraris were out due to mechanical problems while Valteri Bottas was suffering from car issues as well. All of them hope to get a better result this time. Especially the Finnish driver who announced this week that he will join Aston Martin in the next season.

Online gambling sites in Italy certainly mention Bottas in their favorites. He has the odds of 12.00 to finally get a win this season after seven podium finishes. Sergio Perez in the Red Bull hasn’t been too convincing either in his new team. Except for the Azerbaijan race where he got his second F1 victory. But the Mexican only won four points in the last four races and stands only in fifth place in the championship. Mclaren’s Lando Norris is ahead of him in fourth place, but he hasn’t got great results in the last few races either. Their odds to win in Monza are 26.00 and 34.00 on bet365. While last year’s winner, Pierre Gasly probably would need another miracle to win again as shown by his odds (101.00).
