The 2015 Canadian Grand Prix could be the most exciting race of the season so far.

The teams of Formula One have to break their European tour to visit Montreal, as the Canadian Gran Prix is always scheduled to the early stages of the European season.

• Ferrari to narrow the gap
• Hamilton is still favourite
• Canada destroys the cars

The fast and exciting track could suit the Mercedes, who had reliability issues twelve months ago, leading to the first victory in the career of Daniel Ricciardo, as many of those who bet on sports Canada might remember. Ferrari is hoping that the upgraded engine they brought to Montreal can help its drivers to close the gap between them and the leaders.

A quick trip across the Atlantic

The Canadian GP is traditionally scheduled in the European season of the Formula One calendar, so after the teams have packed up almost a fortnight ago in Monaco, they had to make a quick trip to the other side of the Atlantic before they are coming back to Austria. It doesn’t mean that they actually have to take all of their belongings to Montreal from Monte Carlo, as things more difficult to transport and install have been shipped already before the team made it to Monaco.

Formula One teams have different units and packages for European and overseas venues, and from the requisites the heaviest to move, they might even have four pieces with each serving different regions. That includes everything a team might need from the motor homes and tools to some components of the car, though the core of the vehicle is obviously the same at every weekends, however factories provide some newly developed parts usually for every race.

Ferrari drivers now have a new engine at their disposal, which will provide for them a 30 horsepower boost comparing to the previous device, gambling news report. Scuderia used three tokens from their available 10 for upgrading the engine in the season to develop the power source. According to motor sport experts, the Italian team will perform the next major upgrade before their home race in Monza in September.

As Mercedes brought a new engine to the Canadian Grand Prix too, but reportedly did not use any tokens to improve it recently, Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen could fight for narrowing the gap between them and the Silver Arrows indeed. They could also capitalize on the tyre allocation, as softs as primes and supersofts as options are provided by Pirelli for this weekend, and the controversy that emerged from the Brackley-based outfit’s depot in Monte Carlo.

Lewis Hamilton was running towards his second Monaco victory, when his team, desperately missing Ross Brawn for a moment, messed their data up calling the world champion out for an unnecessary pit stop. By doing so, they tossed the victory to Hamilton’s teammate Nico Rosberg, whith the German becoming the only three-time Monaco winner amongst the active drivers. With Hamilton coming in third behind Vettel, Rosberg was able to reduce his deficit to ten points, which means that he would be on level with the Briton if another similar outcome occurred this weekend.

The Mercedes staff could be motivated not just by the need to correct their struggles with strategy, but also to forget the previous race in Montreal. In last year’s Canadian GP they lost the race due to reliability problems, though both of their cars started from the first row, as many of the mobile betting audience would remember. With its long straights and U-turns, the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is really hard on breaks and engines. Located on the Notre-Dame Island, it is basically a street circuit with some race-purposed parts, so the track is hard on tyres as well. With all this in mind, it is no surprise that most of the teams will utilize a brand new power source for this weekend, as in Canada it is not enough to be quick, you have to last as well.

With freshly developed parts slightly altering the field obviously, the Mercedes drivers are still favourites to win the race. Hamilton would be the default choice as the recipient of the 25 points, however a good strategic approach from Ferrari backed by the deployment of the safety car, which has a high possibility in Canada, could turn it all over. Considering all this, and the boost Rosberg enjoys after back-to-back victories, Hamilton is still the one to pick as winner for punters wagering at any online sportsbook, as the Briton, feeling his teammate’s breath on his neck, should really put the pedal to the metal.
