A petition to stop the casino from being built has been rejected by authorities, so the project is moving forward.

While Las Vegas Sands gave up on its Eurovegas project, plans for the new casino in Mallorca are moving forward. Several locations were taken into consideration, including Playa de Palma and Bendinat, but the developer was eventually granted permission to build the new gambling venue in the old bingo hall “Teatro Balear” in Palma de Mallorca.

Spanish gambling laws have allowed the gambling industry to grow, but the country still has a lot of potential for development. Last year, local authorities in Mallorca decided to award a new casino license and three companies entered the race to obtain it. The new license went to a group of local businessmen.

EUR 10 million investment

Local gambling news report, with the project now having the green light, the casino could open as early as July 1st 2014. The project seeks to lure visitors away from the city suburbs and closer to the historical centre.

According to the developer, it will cost around EUR 10 million to transform the old bingo hall into an attractive casino venue which will include 70 gambling machines and 13 tables for American roulette, blackjack or poker. It is expected that 170 new jobs will be available at the Gran Casion Teatro Balear.
