  • Horse racing is one of the most popular gambling forms
  • Britanni Stakes: a race to remember
  • Horse racing for charity should become a custom

You might know that horse racing is one of the most popular of all gambling forms. This way, there is huge money in the business – that they could use to great things! One of them is unquestionably charity, that is to say, horse racing can help good causes. This is what the Betting and Gaming council realized. Here are the details!

Many gamblers are just obsessed with horse racing. It is one of the oldest forms of wagering, but it has not gone out of style. It is partly because of the excitement and the rush of one race. And it is partly because wagers can make a background check on the horses and the jockeys. This way, they are more likely to put a bet on a probable candidate. It can also be because many place bets on these races, so the wins are remarkable. But what if we say that these remarkable amounts of money could go from horse racing to charity? Now, the British Betting and Gaming Council just made this a reality. And it was a huge success! But what is there to know about the topic? Keep on reading to find out!

The Britannia Stakes

If you have ever wagered on horse races, or you are interested in the topic, you are probably familiar with the Britannia Stakes event. According to Wikipedia, the “Britannia Stakes is a flat handicap horse race in Great Britain open to three-year-old colts and geldings. It is run at Ascot over a distance of 1 mile (1,609 meters) on the straight course, and it is scheduled to take place each year in June on the third day of the Royal Ascot meeting. The Britannia Stakes was first to run in 1928 and takes place over the same course and distance as the Royal Hunt Cup.”

This year the heritage handicap run took place at 17:00 on Thursday 17th June 2021. So, in the last couple of weeks, all the online gambling news sites in the UK were full of the topic. Not to mention betting sites, like Betway, giving away several odds on horse racing. But how do charity cases come to this? Let us explain it!

Let’s race!

Horse racing for charity

So, how does horse racing work for a charity? The Betting and Gaming council was the body that decided to connect the Britannia Stakes with important charity cases. And so they did! The biggest members of the BGC signed up to donate all of their profits from the race to charities. It included online sportsbook sites in the UK, like bet365, Unibet, BetVictor, Betway, and several other popular betting sites. And what did they raise money for? For several charity organizations, like Prostate Cancer UK, Marie Curie, the three Armed Forces charities, and Care Radio. This means that these organizations get all the profits. (From wins and each-way bets after they deduct the levy and all duties.) And even if one company did not make any profit on the race, they agreed to still make a donation to these charities.

Bet and do good!

The chief executive of the BGC, Michael Dugher said: “I am absolutely delighted that the BGC’s largest members are once again leading this fantastic initiative, which will raise vital funds for some of the country’s top charities. (…)Racing is a sport that has the power to bring people together and Royal Ascot is one of the great highlights of the calendar. Millions of people enjoy a flutter and I’m proud that betting companies will donate their profits from one of Royal Ascot’s top races to go towards some brilliant causes that will help so many people from across the country.” And this is so true! We can only hope, that this initiative will trigger more like itself because encouraging people to bet in order to help good causes seem to be a win-win situation!
