A bet on Stradivarius in the Goodwood Cup is all but mandatory as this fabulous horse continues to dominate its races.

For a third time of asking you can bet on Stradivarius in the Goodwood Cup and with the bookies like Bet365, one of the best online sportsbook sites in the UK these days, giving it just 4/5 to equal the record held by Double Trigger it could well be madness not to back it to win again. Then again there’s a reason only one horse has thus far won this prestigious stayer’s race three times, so a quick glance at the rest of the choices, apart from Stradivarius, might be in order.

The five day Glorious Goodwood festival gets underway and the headline race on that first day is the superb second leg of what has become the Stayer’s Triple Crown (lining up alongside the Gold Cup and Doncaster Cup). This year you can once again bet on Stradivarius in the Goodwood Cup as it continues its epic career, and the bookies have it as firm favorite, however with Cross Counter in at 7/2 and Dee Ex Bee ready to sting at 4/1 nothing is entirely certain.

2019 Goodwood Cup Odds at bet365

  • Pilaster – 66/1
  • Cypress Creek – 66/1
  • Who Dares Wins – 40/1
  • Ben Vrackie – 40/1
  • Raa Atoll – 40/1
  • Harpo Marx – 40/1
  • Red Galileo – 33/1
  • Withhold – 33/1
  • Barbados – 33/1
  • Salouen – 25/1
  • Norway – 20/1
  • South Pacific – 20/1
  • Wells Farhh Go – 16/1
  • Dashing Willoughby – 16/1
  • Amade – 16/1
  • Cleonte – 14/1
  • Constantinople – 14/1
  • Southern France – 10/1
  • Dee Ex Bee – 4/1
  • Cross Counter – 7/2
  • Stradivarius – 4/5

Well, alright, so in terms of certainty perhaps the idea that Cypress Creek and Pilaster, both distant 66/1 shots, aren’t going to win might stand up to the stresses of veracity, but beyond that it gets a little more complex. A bet on Stradivarius in the Goodwood Cup only makes sense as a bet on sports in the UK at all if you believe it can do what only one horse has done before, and whilst Harpo Marx, Raa Atoll and Ben Vrackie at 40/1 won’t challenge it, Counter Cross might.

Who Dares Wins also gets 40/1 but really won’t dare win and Red Galileo gets 33/1 alongside Barbados and Withhold, placing them just beyond the 25/1 mark where Salouen lurks. Salouen has busy few weeks so whether it’ll still have the legs to even place in this one seems up for discussion, and that could be why it’s getting longer prices than South Pacific and Norway at 20/1 meaning neither one of which is worth eschewing a bet on Stradivarius in the Goodwood Cup for.

What might surprise is the jump from that portion of the field to the closer-in each-way chancers at around 16/1. Sure, they’re none of them going to rival a bet on Stradivarius in the Goodwood Cup on the nose, but to place? Amade, Dashing Willoughby and Well Farhh Go all stand some chance of snaffling a top three finish, a 16/1 chance frankly. Indeed if you have to take advantage of UK gambling laws and go each way on this one, try Cleonte or Constantinople both at 14/1.

Where the really interesting wagers lie is further towards the favorite. A bet on Stradivarius in the Goodwood Cup might be too pedestrian for some, and for them there is the 10/1 chance that Southern France represents, a horse long overdue coming good. Dee Ex Bee who has run Strad close before loiters at 4/1 and honestly if you believe there’s a runner in this one that can beat such a powerful champion as Stradivarius it’ll have to be Dee Ex Bee. Unless it’s Cross Counter.

The Goodwood Cup

Cross Counter gets 7/2 from the bookies like Bet365, one of the best online betting sites in the UK today, but only managed fourth at Ascot, a position even behind Dee Ex Bee. So then, whilst there are other wagers available, and some of the each-way action around the 16/1 mark is a tad tempting, a bet on Stradivarius in the Goodwood Cup is still the eminently preferable choice for those with their sanity in check , even if the odds are a lot shorter than make for big margins.
