  • 2021 LPGA Tour starts this week in Lake Buena Vista, Florida
  • The Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions takes place 21-24 January
  • Brooker Henderson is top favorite in the absence of South Korean players
The 2021 LPGA season starts this week with the Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. In this prestigious tournament only former LPGA Tour winners can compete so the field is full with the best women golfers. The  LPGA Diamond Resorts odds favor Brooke Henderson to win this year but several other players can get the victory.  This will be only the third edition of the LPGA Diamond Resorts Tournament of Champions which debuted in 2019. Only winners on the LPGA Tour events in the previous three years can take part in the competition which also holds a celebrity and pro-am tournaments. Mexican Gaby Lopez won last year and will try to defend her title. But she won’t have an easy job as three other top 10 players will also be there. Top South Korean players including Ko Jin-young will miss the event just like the Player of the Year, Kim Sei-young. In their absence Canadian Brooke Henderson is the top favorite, she will face tough competition though from the American players.

LPGA Diamond Resorts odds favor Henderson to win

Brooke Henderson is currently in 6th place in the world ranking and has the smallest odds, +500 by online sportsbooks in the US. She had a strong season last year even though she couldn’t win any tournament. But she had six top 10 finishes including a playoff performance in the 2020 ANA Inspiration in September. Henderson was 7th in the last event of 2020, in the CME Group Tour Championship. But the Canadian golfer has to improve on her putting if she wants to get her 10th LPGA Tour victory now.

Let's play!
One of her biggest rivals can be Nelly Korda who has the odds of +750 in the  LPGA Diamond Resorts odds. The young American player got three LPGA wins so far from the previous years. She also finished as a runner-up in last year’s ANA Inspiration which was her best result in a major tournament. Korda was 10th in this tournament last season. But the world No4 can get a better result now in the absence of the top Asian players. Just like her sister, Jessica Korda (+1400) who also takes part in the event.

Other American favorites and chances of the defending champion

Online gambling sites in the US also mention another American player, Danielle Kang with a chance of winning (+800). Kang won two LPGA tournaments last summer after the return of the sport. She also had three more top 10 finishes in the season. The winner of the 2017 Women’s PGA Championship is currently in 5th place in the world ranking between Korda and Henderson. She also won the 2020 Vare Trophy for lowest scoring average on the Tour, which could give her another boost for a great performance. While Lexi Thompson might get back to form here, in the tournament where she finished T7 last year. Her best result in 2020 was a 4th place in the ANA Inspiration which she won in 2014, at the age of only 19.  Now the world No11 can try to get her 12th LPGA Tour victory. She has the odds of +800 to do so. The chances of last year’s winner, Mexican Gaby Lopez are not so bright with +2200 on BetOnline. Her victory was only her second LPGA Tour win but she did it with a memorable style. As Lopez won with a birdie on the seventh extra hole. Now the world No56 must produce a similar performance to defend her title.
