The young Micronesia’s football team requires from FIFA to be given a place between the Asian confederation, after the severe defeats in the Pacific Games.

While many are still impressed by the football that we had the opportunity to see in the Copa America 2015, others are astonished by some of the worst performances of a football team ever in an international tournament. After receiving 114 goals in three matches in their net during the Pacific Games, Micronesia’s football association is expecting soon to become part of the Asian confederation, gambling news report. The approval of FIFA in this “transfer process“ will be of crucial importance. Until now the official bodies of the “house of football” were not willing to consider the case of Micronesia. However the score of “-114 goals“ in the Pacific Games seems to finally make the officials interested in the football development of this small country.

• Severe defeats of Micronesia in the Pacific Games
• The island intends to join the Asian Confederation
• Micronesia’s football waits for FIFA reaction

If this happens then Micronesia’s results over the three matches at the Pacific Games, might now even prove to be beneficiary for the team. This was the reason why many football experts from the region pointed out that Micronesia fielded this team on purpose so that with the severe defeats attracts the attention of FIFA and the wider international football community. However the Australian coach of Micronesia, denied these speculations and confirmed the interest of the country to become part of the Asian confederation

Micronesia’s football still underdeveloped

Pacific Games 2015 Micronesia

Underdeveloped? You can say that again! It’s not like they had Brazil and Italy in the group..

The population of Micronesia amount to almost 100,000 spread all over main islands. Many compare it with the east coast of Australia. As, online gambling news in Australia inform, the traveling between the islands is not an easy nor a cheap enterprise. Several players that come from the smaller islands have never even visited the field of the main island. And furthermore some have never even played in football boots before.

Before the Australian coach of Micronesia, Stan Foster, was a difficult task: to make a competitive team for the past Pacific Games. He reported to the media that in the past months he was having a hard time concerning the selection and that he picked the best of the athletes he could find in the small country. Most of them, he stressed, have had a little bit of experience playing soccer. The players that represented Micronesia’s football at the Pacific Games would usually belong to the young Under-20s categories. However he is expecting to start a long term project with this team that will in general increase the level of football on the island, by drastically lifting their skill level. From the side of the players there is also a huge enthusiasm after the Pacific Games. They are all now working very committedly on their form, eager to increase the level bit-by-bit on every training session. What they saw on the Pacific Games was for them, according to Foster, a life-experience.

FIFA needs to give a perspective to Micronesia’s football

However Oceania seems to be the first that discouraged Micronesia to join their confederation since according to them the Asian Confederation can provide better conditions for development of the football in this country. If this becomes the case in the following weeks then it will present another strike for the Oceania federation whose countries are constantly being accepted in the Asian Confederation. This will in the same time shake the legitimacy of the football bodies in Oceania in general. Many stress the fact that that even the top teams from this zone such as New Zealand play less than San Marino, for example, against top class national teams. This contributes not only to the lower popularity of football in Oceania but also for the lower quality level of play in this zone

After Fiji beat them 38-0 in the first match, others in the group were forced to improve their goal difference. What if Germany needed to score 100 goals on them to advance? They probably could.

Whether FIFA will accept Micronesia as its member and place it into the Asian Confederation is something we will find out in the next few weeks. FIFA has more members than the United Nation, but this is not the case when the Pacific only is concerned. For many years now, the “house of football” refuses to accept many islands because they don’t meet FIFA’s standards. However the Micronesia case is a chance for FIFA to establish itself not only as a football organization but as an important social international organization. Their decision to accept Micronesia would definitely change the lives of many people on the island. As online sportsbooks in Australia report, FIFA has previously done this with Guam and American Samoa. It is maybe time for accepting Micronesia too.
