  • Stars like Michael Phelps and Serena WIlliams have their own foundations
  • One of the most generous athlete is Cristiano Ronaldo
  • Athletes now support the fight against the new coronavirus

From time to time we can hear about the donations of different athletes for many good causes. From charities to the support of the victims of natural disasters. Now, of course, many of them are making offers to soothe the effects of the new coronavirus. But the most generous athletes in the world have been active before as well.

Liverpool player Sadio Mane has donated £41, 000 for the fight against coronavirus in his home country, Senegal. The German national team offered €2,5 million or similar reasons. While NBA players are donating money to cover the salaries of the workers at the arenas who are left without work now. In exceptional circumstances, we can see how the biggest sports stars can come together and help the most affected. But the athletes below have been doing it in normal times as well.

The most generous athletes are helping different causes

One of the most famous athletes in the world, American swimmer Michael Phelps has created his own foundation. It works with children and promotes mental and physical wellness. He also takes part in the works of other charities and helps fundraising for them.

Another global star, Serena Williams also founded her own charity, which supports the education of children from poorer backgrounds. She is also a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF where her role is focusing on the education of children in Asia. She has more time to deal with the charity after all major tennis tournaments have been canceled or postponed. Hopefully, we can see her on the court in Wimbledon, where she is the main favorite with the odds of 7,00.

Most generous football stars

The biggest football players, like Cristiano Ronaldo or Neymar, are earning millions each month. But both of them are trying to give back as well, helping organizations and charities. Ronaldo once donated $83, 000 for a 10-year-old child’s brain surgery. In another case an even bigger amount to a hospital’s cancer center where her mother was treated. But he has also helped to fight natural disasters and became Save the Children’s Global Ambassador.

Probably Neymar is more famous for his partying and extreme hairstyles, but at the same time, he is a keen supporter of different causes. From fighting against Ebola to bringing clean water to areas in Brazil, which his organization, Neymar Jr Project Institute is concentrating. Both players are on forced holidays after all major European leagues are suspended. But if you’re missing football, you can still find some leagues to bet on at Bet365.

Stars donating their money and time

LeBron James, one of the biggest stars of the NBA has come from a poor background, so he does everything to support children in similar circumstances. He established the LeBron James Family Foundation which organizes after school programs and offers mentoring and scholarships to Universities. He also supports the Boys and Girls Clubs in America and raises his voice in social issues like race relations.

Another huge American sports icon, NFL player Eli Manning is one of the most generous athletes. As online sportsbook news in the US has also reported Manning managed to raise nearly $3 million in five years in order to build the Eli Manning Children’s Clinic in Mississippi. He also donated to the University of Mississippi, known as Ole Miss, and to other charities.

Tough athletes with big hearts

Maybe we wouldn’t expect it from a WWE wrestler like John Cena. Actually, he is one of the most charitable athletes in the world. He is the most wanted athlete in the Make-a-wish Foundation. He tries to meet every child, whose dream is to meet the famous wrestler. Besides, Cena also raises funds for the Susan G Komen foundation which is the biggest breast cancer organization.

A similarly tough woman is Ronda Rousey, who is an Olympic bronze medalist in judo, UFC champion, and current WWE wrestler. She also had her own foundation which helps people with mental issues. Ronda also began the Gompers Judo program which offers judo training for children in Los Angeles and supports the Free Rice Campaign. According to the program, after every question you answered on their website, ten grains of rice are donated by the sponsor. She helped to raise 278 million grains of rice in her UFC fights. Many athletes help after disasters

Unfortunately, in recent years there have been many occasions when donations were needed from everywhere and everyone. Just think about the most recent catastrophes. Like the wildfires in Australia when many tennis stars donated some amount to wildlife relief. Maria Sharapova was between them, but she has been also helping other charities dealing with poverty and AIDS.

During Hurricane Harvey, which caused the biggest demolition in Houston, local American football star JJ Watt started a fundraiser. He managed to raise over $5,4 million. And several top athletes got together to support the victims of Hurricane Maria which hit mostly the Caribbean islands of Dominica and Puerto Rico. It’s good to see that so many athletes are trying to help in the most difficult times. Like in the crisis we experience now.
