Ronald Koeman joined FC Barcelona as their new manager last summer replacing Quique Setien. He couldn’t bring the team back to its former level but at least he did win the Copa del Rey last season. But following this catastrophic summer and losing Lionel Messi, he just seems to have lost the plot.  The team is only in 8th place in La Liga. They suffered a huge, 0-3 loss from Bayern Munich at home in the Champions League. Honestly, Barcelona looks like a shadow of its former self. Of course, it’s not only Koeman’s fault. As he has to rebuild the team from young, inexperienced players in a tough financial situation. But still, many doubt that he is the right man to lead the club in these times and ask for a change. With several names getting mentioned, let’s see the most likely options for who can get the job.

Martinez and Xavi Lead in The Next Barcelona Manager Odds

Roberto Martinez is a top candidate to replace Ronald Koeman at the Catalan club.  Online sportsbooks in Spain offer the smallest odds, 2.984 for his appointment in their next Barcelona manager odds. The Spaniard is currently the manager of the Belgian national team. Which he led to the top of the FIFA rankings in 2018 and has been keeping it there ever since. Belgium got their best result in the 2018 World Cup after finishing third in the tournament. But the team was knocked out in the quarter-final by Italy in this year’s Euros, which might motivate him for a change. Martinez worked at Swansea, Wigan, and Everton before where he couldn’t achieve similar results. But he might do it with Barcelona which would be another challenge for him.

Another top candidate for the job is a former legendary Barcelona player, Xavi, who has the odds of 3.54 to replace Koeman. At the moment he is working at Qatari club Al Sadd which won the title under his management. But taking over Barca might be too big a step for the 41-year-old who hasn’t got too much managerial experience. Fans and many people at the club would be still happy to see him back. Xavi won everything with his former club and his appointment would reflect on those times. But we might need to wait a few more years to see him managing the first team.

Conte and Arteta are Olso Mentioned as Alternative Options

Antonio Conte is out of work right now after his sudden departure from Inter Milan due to financial issues. Well, the situation is not much better in Barcelona, so the Italian is not likely to take the job. Unless he wants to prove himself in La Liga as well, where he hasn’t worked so far. Unlike Serie A and the Premier League where he won titles with Juventus, Inter, and Chelsea. He is one of the best managers right now who is available straight away, making him a possible option. His odds to become the next Barcelona manager are 7.90.

Online gambling sites in Spain also mention Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta in the candidates with the odds of 10.00. The former top player started his senior career at Barcelona but left the club after not getting playing time. He spent his best years at the Gunners where he also started his management career two years ago. But his place at Arsenal is not very safe after the team’s disappointing last season. Arteta also worked with Pep Guardiola at Manchester City before which might favor him at Barca. His name has already come up with a connection to the Catalan club in the spring.  It might be just the right time for him to join the Catalans.
