Snooker Game between Jamie Burnett and John Sutton Faces Probe

Snooker’s governing authority confirms it is looking into “unusual betting” circumstances that happened on a match between Scotland’s Burnett and Ireland’s Sutton.

Reports have surfaced that there were some shady betting practices that took place on last Wednesday’s match between popular Scottish snooker player Burnett and Irish amateur Sutton. According to gambling news, the game was held at the Barnsley Metrodome which saw the Scot seal a comfortable 6-0 win against the inexperienced Sutton.

The match was a qualifying game for the rewarding International Championship tournament taking place on October 26 to November 2 in China. Although the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association (WPBSA) did not want to shed light onto the details of the probe, it did confirm that it was informed by the gaming industry of some “unusual betting.”

WPBSA is currently analyzing information to reach a conclusion

The WPBSA highlighted the circumstances of the game by stating, “The WPBSA integrity unit undertook specific measures both to monitor the match live and to examine the circumstances surrounding the match and player.”

The governing authority also mentioned the information they received from the mobile betting industry. “Together with the sports betting intelligence unit at the Gambling Commission we are analyzing the available information on this match to determine what action is appropriate.”

On a previous occasion, 39-year-old Burnett and another Scotsman Stephen Maguire were part of an inquiry by the WPBSA in 2011 over their match held in the 2008 UK Championship. However, after discovering no compromising evidence from either side, both of the men were cleared of any wrongdoings that were initially tabled against them.
