Polls in Thailand reflect public disapproval of the idea of legalizing casinos in the country.

A poll realized on 17 and 18 of June by Bangkok University indicates that 58.5 % of the investigated people (1,093) are against the legalization of casinos in the country. 35.1% gave their support to this idea, while 6.4% did not comment on the question, reports gambling news.

Another poll by Suan Dusit, conducted between 16 and 20 of June, shows that out of 1,363 people, which took part in the survey, 45.1 % proclaimed they do not support the proposal. 38.6% on the other hand expressed their approval of the initiative to legalize casinos. As main reasons for acceptance of this idea they mentioned the generation of funds for different projects as well as the creation of new job opportunities.

Why “no” to the legalization of casinos?

Although the idea for legalizing casinos came from the National Reform Council (NRC), as the surveys show, it was not well received by the citizens. Despite the positive reasons for the legalization of casinos, many remark that the corruption, the debts, the gambling addictions and the increased rate of crime will follow this process. It would therefore considerably outweigh the advantages it brings.

Meanwhile, the illegal gambling activities in Thailand are becoming even more widely developed. The authorities of the state are continuously working on preventing these kind of activities in accord with the Thailand gambling laws. The measures they employ include arresting gamblers and confiscating the illegal items involved in these activities.
