  • There hasn’t been too much movement this winter transfer season
  • Arsenal got Odegaard on loan from Real while Ozil joined Fenerbahce for free
  • Jesse Lingard can join West Ham, Luka Jovic his old club, Frankfurt on loan
Even though there haven’t been as many transfers this winter season as we are used to, some movements were still going on in the European football market. Real Madrid midfielder Martin Odegaard has joined Arsenal on loan while Mesut Ozil finally found a club where he can play. Let’s see all the top football transfers this winter.  The end of the 2020-21 winter transfer period is fast approaching still not many deals have been made so far. Seems like the clubs are waiting for the summer now and want to use their existing squad for the rest of the season. Even though some top clubs have been dealing with several injured players, like Liverpool or Manchester City, they haven’t bought any new players yet. Well, at the moment the financial situation is quite tough for most clubs. While new rules after Brexit have also made the signing of new foreign players more difficult for Premier League clubs. Some deals have still been made in Europe, let’s take a look at them now.

Jesse Lingard’s signing can belong to the top transfers this winter

Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard can join West Ham United on loan this winter. As the two clubs seem to have agreed on his £1,5 million loan fee. The English international has been out of the Red Devils’ first team for a long time now. He only played in 3 cup games this season.  West Ham manager David Moyes knows him well after his spell at United. He thinks the 28-year-old player can be a big asset for his team. Unlike Jack Wilshere who left the club last October and joined Championship club Bournemouth for now.  The Hammers also signed permanently Algerian forward Said Benrahma for £20 million, which is one of the most expensive transfers of this winter season so far. The team is performing superbly this season and is currently in 5th place in the league. Online sportsbooks in the UK offer the odds of 4.50 for West Ham to finish in the top 6 teams at the end of the season.

Movements at Arsenal and other Premier League teams

Another London club, Arsenal haven’t had such a great season so far. The Gunners are only 9th place in the Premier League. Though they’ve improved a lot in the last few rounds. To play even better they’ve signed Danish midfielder Martin Odegaard from Real Madrid on loan in the top football transfers this winter. The talented 22-year-old player didn’t get too many opportunities to play from Zidane this season. Even though he was a key member in Real Sociedad last year. Now he can prove his ability at Arsenal where hopefully he can be in more use. Staying with the Gunners, the club’s former star, Mesut Ozil finally found a club where he can also get back to playing. The German world cup winner joined Turkish side Fenerbahce for free.  Being out of Arsenal’s team since last March, Turkish fans hope to see him back to his previous form soon. Aston Villa also made another signing this winter. French midfielder Morgan Sanson joined the club from Marseille for £16 million. Villa’s midfield is already strong with Ross Barkley and John McGinn, but Sanson is ready to fight for his place at his new team.

Other top transfers in Europe

Serie A leader AC Milan signed English defender Fikayo Tomori from Chelsea on loan with an option to buy him at the end of the season. The English international was only fifth choice at the Blues and wanted to join a club with more playing time. We shall see how he can fit in the Italian team’s system. Meanwhile one of the most sought after Serie A players, Papu Gomez from Atalanta was signed by Sevilla for £5,5 million. The Argentine midfielder was the captain of the team which reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League in 2019. But he decided to leave after his row with Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini. La Liga leader Atletico Madrid also had some movements this winter. Diego Costa announced his departure from the club with no future club in the picture yet. For his replacement the team obtained Olympique Lyon forward Moussa Dembele on loan until the end of the season. The 24-year-old French player scored 45 goals for Lyon since 2018 including a double against Manchester City in last year’s UCL quarter-finals. Now he can do the same against Chelsea when his new team will meet the Blues in the last 16. In the tie where online gambling sites in the UK offer similar odds for both teams to qualify.

Big returners in the Bundesliga

Two great players can return to the Bundesliga on loan this winter. One of them is 23-year-old Luka Jovic who has returned to his former club, Eintracht Frankfurt on loan from Real Madrid. Just like many other players, Jovic hasn’t played much in Real this season. But he should have the opportunity to play again in Frankfurt. The Serbia international scored 27 goals for the team in the 2018-19 season before joining Real. With his goals he can help his team to finish in the top 4.

Let's play!
While the experience of 37-year-old Klaas-Jan Huntelaar can help his former team, Schalke 04 in their fight against relegation. The striker scored 126 goals in his seven seasons at the club between 2010-2017. Now he joins them from Ajax on a short-term contract until the end of the season. Schalke need every help as they are bottom at the table, 10 points from safety. At the top we can find Bayern again ahead of RB Leipzig who signed the young Hungarian talent, Dominik Szoboszlai from Red Bull Salzburg. The midfielder is struggling with an injury at the moment. But hopefully he can make his debut soon in one of strongest European football leagues.
