Sled-Dog Racing

This is the type of sport that knows no mercy. The tiniest mistake can result in catastrophe, both for the dogs and the dog drivers. Even if it seems simple, that’s not the case at all. Stamina, mental strength, and preparedness are the crucial parts of success. This sport is time-consuming, expensive, and demands tremendous discipline. The driver is responsible for the training and the dogs' well-being. There are various competitions, like long-distance or sprint races, for professionals and amateurs.  The minimum number of dogs is four, but the longer the distance, the more dogs pull the sled. The environment is harsh, and since the cold takes out a lot of energy, both the drivers and the dogs need enough sleep and water. If your body is under pressure, the energy usage increases along with your temperature. The proper hydration is significant. The sled-dog races are full of obstacles, struggles, and challenges. As one of the toughest sports in the world, it is only for the most courageous people.

Cross-Country Skiing

It is another winter sport, where the cold weather plays an essential role. If you have seen the end of a cross-country ski race, you know that the exhausted athletes fall to the ground after crossing the finish line panting hard. Cross-country skiing is a sport that puts the athletes’ endurance and mental strength to the test. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIkp3LIAqvs The long kilometers alone are tough, which is understandable because skiers are under tremendous pressure. Mainly in the last part, where their heart rate can reach 200 beats per minute, which is dangerous and tires the body immensely. Athletes often give up the competition due to health problems, like cramps, pulled and sore muscles, or feeling sick.  During cross-country skiing, almost all muscles work in the body. This is why energy consumption is so massive. Tests prove that those who use more oxygen also use more muscles. A professor examined the amount of oxygen absorbed by the body per kilogram in under a minute. He named it aerobic capacity. These tests have shown that the aerobic capacity, besides the rowers and cyclists, is highest with the cross-country skiers. Meaning that while an average person needs around 40 ml, the Olympic cross-country ski champion, Björn Daehli uses over 90 ml. These are the things that make cross-country skiing one of the toughest sports in the world. Also, before you place a bet at  Bet365 Sportsbookconsider the weather factor in cross-country skiing.

Road Cycling

Road cycling is physically demanding. It’s the term for cycling on a paved road quite fast. There are various types of competitions with different intensity and difficulty levels. The most testing race is probably the uphill challenge. It is usually 150-250 km long and has major slops.

Can you imagine the strain? This intense competition takes out a lot of a person, no matter how prepared they are. We have mentioned before, that the aerobic capacity is high with cyclists, as well. Their energy usage is immense, so is the oxygen, so staying hydrated is crucial. Some races last a day, one, two, or three weeks. So they always have to be in good shape to endure the intensive pressure. Toughest Sports in The World - High Diving

In high diving, men jump into the water from 27 meters and women from 20 meters. This is the equivalent of a ten-story building. FINA determined 18 as the age limit for this risky sport. According to the rules of high diving, the duration of the free fall has to be at least three seconds, and the athletes must reach the water with their feet to avoid injury. This is crucial! Due to the speed, the arrival is dangerous. During the fall, the athletes can reach a 96 km/h speed. So divers are waiting in the water in case of an emergency.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f1EQdWp0Ggo Rumor has it that the people of Hawaii had already invented this extreme sport. In the 1770s, warriors threw themselves off the rocks into the sea, proving their courage. In the 19th century, a similar sport emerged in Germany. Gymnasts realized that if they jumped from higher, then they would be able to perform more stunts. High diving became an Olympic sport in 1904, and it was essentially cliff jumping that preceded it and got popular again after its appearance.

Windlining and Highlining - Slackline Crossing

Slackline doesn’t get as much attention as rock climbing or the other toughest sports in the world. Although, it’s just as extreme and dangerous as they are. Slacklining is an extreme sport that requires a perfect sense of balance and courage. People fasten the two ends of the rope to something solid, not too rigidly, so the slackline has flexibility and keeps moving. Let’s hope that your legs won’t start trembling. The rope can stretch in various ways according to what you want to use it for, a walk or stunts. Thanks to its weaving technique, the slackline is pretty flat, so our feet fit on it.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzrI8BeOw_0 Highlining means slacklining high above the ground or water. Many consider this to be the most difficult and challenging slacklining type. Most of the time, due to safety reasons, they fasten a belt tied to the slackline. Of course, some do not know fear and perform without using any protective gear. The 18-year-old Pablo Signoret walked for 26 minutes, 420 meters from the ground at a dizzying height back in 2017, setting a Guinness World record with it. Windlining means that athletes slackline in windy weather. It is hard to stay on the rope even in normal circumstances but in the wind? It requires the most stable sense of balance ever. Especially if you decide to try it over a canyon without a safety belt. This is most definitely among the toughest sports in the world for loads of reasons.

Toughest Sports in The World - Bull Riding

There are several sayings of bull riding, but probably the most descriptive is that the only thing between the winner and the loser is eight seconds. This is how long the riders have to stay on the back of the bull. People often compare sitting on a bull to riding a bike downhill when you cling to the handle for dear life. Except that you can use only one hand to hold on. Eight seconds is nothing to a spectator but an eternity to the bull riders. They claim that sitting on the bull is an unimaginable adrenalin bomb. They can’t think or breathe, only rely on their experiences and instincts.  It takes an extreme amount of courage to do one of the toughest sports in the world. However, fear keeps them alert and alive. Although, that’s not all. Before the competition, the riders get a bull randomly chosen, then after a successful eight seconds, both the animal and the rider will receive points. The fiercest bull and the most successful athlete will win that round based on the total score, and that is how they determine the ranking. It will be an unforgettable experience for those who try it and those who watch it!
