Vegas Dave Lost $1 Million on Miesha Tate

Tate with Vegas Dave

It was a rough night for one of Las Vegas’ most prolific gamblers, as Vegas Dave lost an incredible $1 million after Miesha Tate lost to Amanda Nunes.

UFC 200 was historic for many reasons. Firstly, it marked the return of Brock Lesnar after nearly five years since he last fought. Next, it was the first UFC event to take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. And lastly, it was the event in which the largest single sport bet was placed on. Unfortunately, Vegas Dave lost that bet.

“Vegas” Dave Oancea made US gambling news in June by placing an incredible $1 million on Miesha Tate to defeat Amanda Nunes. It seemed like a logical bet too. Tate is considered one of the toughest female fighters in the sport, and Amanda Nunes has a history of breaking late in fights. As we saw again, however, anything can happen in MMA.

Amanda Nunes charged at Tate from the opening bell and broke the champion’s nose with a hard punch. It was all downhill for Tate from there, and she eventually lost by rear-naked choke at 3:16 of the first round.

Although Vegas Dave lost more money than many people make in a lifetime, he is taking it all in stride. He took to his Instagram account immediately after the fight to let his fans know all is well. “We still firing tonight. Lose 7 figures just move on till tomorrow. That’s part of the business. Win big or go home.” He wrote.

This is the first high-profile loss of Vegas Dave’s career.

Vegas Dave first came to the attention of the MMA community after he bet $20,000 on Holly Holm beating Ronda Rousey back in November of 2015. He won a cool $240,000 from that bet, but didn’t stop there. Next, Oancea bet $77,000 on Miesha Tate to win against Holm this past March. Tate did just that, and Dave walked away with $223,000.

Every streak must come to an end, however, and Vegas Dave lost one of the biggest wagers he has ever placed. He made sure to pay Tate her respects after the fight, again posting on Instagram, “Forget the money. I feel the pain for Miesha Tate and I will always be her number one fan. Much love and respect to her. The person she is what makes her a champion in my book.”

It remains to be seen how Dave will bounce back from this loss. But many are wondering whether he takes Tate again after such a big loss. What do you think? Vegas Dave lost this time, but will he win his next bet?
