  • 2021 Internationaux de Strasbourg is held 23-29 May in France
  • It is a WTA 250 event played on clay courts
  • World No7 Bianca Andreescu is the top seed and the biggest favorite
The last WTA Tour event ahead of the 2021 Roland-Garros, the Internationaux de Strasbourg is taking place this week, between the 23rd and 29th of May. It is the last chance to play on clay court before the first Grand Slam of the year. But only Bianca Adreescu is taking part in the tournament from the top 10. No wonder she is the top favorite of the WTA Strasbourg winner odds. Even though she had to miss several other events this season.  The warm-up event to the French Open, the Internationaux de Strasbourg has been held since 1987 as part of the WTA Tour. Former world No1s like Steffi Graf, Lindsay Davenport and Maria Sharapova all won the tournament  before. Ukrainian Elena Svitolina is the defending champion but she won’t compete this year. Unlike Canadian world No7 Bianca Andreescu who is the top seed of the tournament. But other players will also have a chance to win the event after Andreescu’s lack of playing.

The 2019 US Open winner Bianca Andreescu is the top seed of the tournament. She is also the top favorite of online sportsbooks in France to win here with the odds of 4.44. The 20-year-old player missed all last year due to her injury and the cancellations. She only made her return in the 2021 Australian Open. Andreescu was knocked out early there, in the second round but she played much better in the Miami Open. She reached the final there but had to withdraw after the first set due to her foot injury. She also had to miss the tournaments in Madrid and Rome, making her preparation for the French Open quite difficult. Now the young Canadian will have another opportunity to get some confidence and win her fourth WTA Tour title. She won easily against a qualifier in the first round and will face another in the second round. Second seed American Jessica Pegula is already out after losing against Dutch Arantxa Rus in the first round. Now Andreescu’s main rival seems to be Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova, who has the odds of 7.50 in the WTA Strasbourg winner odds. The world No34 has one WTA Tour title after winning the 2020 Shenzhen Open in China. This year she reached the quarter-final in St Petersburg and in Stuttgart. With the latter being played on clay.

Krejcikova and Putintseva in other favorites

Fifth seed Barbora Krejcikova will face French Caroline Garcia in the second round. With online gambling sites in France favoring her to win the tie. Even though Garcia has won the tournament in 2016 and reached the final in 2019 too. But the Czech player is in great form this season after reaching the final of her first WTA 1000 event in Dubai. She also won the Madrid Open in doubles last month. Now she has odds of 8.00 to win her first WTA title in singles here.

Kazakh Yulia Putintseva has slightly higher odds (13.00) to win her second title. And the former three-time Grand Slam quarter-finalist won’t have an easy job to get it. She will play against Swiss Jil Teichmann in the second round where her opponent is the favorite. But Putintseva usually plays well on clay. She reached the last eight in two French Opens. While she also got to the quarter-final in Charleston last month. Romanian Sorana Cirstea can meet the Kazakh player in the semi-final. The world No58 won the Istanbul Cup in April which was her first title since 2008. Now her odds to do it again is 10.00 on 22Bet.
