Gambling in Mozambique
Since 1994, gambling in Mozambique has been legal and regulated by the government. There are a number of strict gambling laws here, particularly for casinos, which establishments must abide by.
Today, casinos in Mozambique must be part of at least a 4-star hotel, and have a minimum investment of $8 million to operate. There are currently two casinos running in Mozambique, both of which offer a number of table games and slot machines.
Sports betting is one of the most popular forms of gambling in Mozambique. Both of the casinos in the country offer sports betting to players.
Mozambique also has a national lottery called the Empresa de Lotarías e Apostas Mutuas de Mozambique.
Online Gambling in Mozambique
In 2009, Mozambique’s gambling laws were amended and added in regulations to legalize online gambling. Almost all forms of online gambling are now legal here, but internet gambling operators are required to obtain a license before they can begin running.
As of July 2016, there are no local online casinos operating from within Mozambique. The only way to play online casinos here is through a foreign casino website.
Unfortunately, there are no online sportsbooks in Mozambique; however there are a number of great foreign sports betting websites that accept Mozambican players.
Internet use is still very low in this country at just 5.4%, and it may be a few years before any local gambling websites begin operating from here.
