Costa awards winners in five categories are contesting the overall winner award. A ceremony is taking place in late January to select the overall winner. The contest is tight, but Lee Lawrence’s The Lauder I Will Sing seems to be the favorite at 2021 Costa Book of the Year odds. Five outstanding books are competing at 2021 Costa book of the year odds. They are the winners of Best, First Novels, Biography, Poetry, and Children’s Book. A panel of five judges from the first round and four new ones will choose the overall winner and reveal the name at a virtual awards ceremony on 26 January. A debut author Lee Lawrence won the Costa biography award for his book “The Lauder I Will Sing”. The book is a memoir dealing with the author’s long quest to find justice for his mother. His mother was left paralyzed after being shot by London police in 1985. When the incident took place the author was only 11 years old. Lawrence’s mother died in 2011. The pathologist found that it was bullet fragments left in her spine that caused her death. Boland’s book stands to win the overall award at 4.5.

Natasha Farrant, Voyage of the Sparrowhawk

Farrant’s 12th book “Voyage of the Sparrowhawk” won best children’s book. It is about two children Lotti and Ben who become friends. They set off from England to France in the wake of the first world war. Their epic journey is buffeted by storms and chased by the police. The story has been liked by most readers.
