  • 2021 Tour of the Alps is held this week, 19-23rd of April in Austria and Italy
  • The five-day event is part of the UCI Europe Tour
  • Simon Yates leads the race and favored to win the event ahead of Pavel Sivakov

In the 44th edition of the Tour of the Alps, cyclists have to climb serious mountains in tough conditions. The race takes place this week, between the 19th and 23rd of April ending in the Riva del Garda area. Simon Yates is currently leading the general classification and is the top favorite in the 2021 Tour of the Alps winner odds. But it can still change in the remaining three stages.

The Tour of the Alps or as it was first named, the Giro del Trentino has been held since 1962, though there was a 14-year-old break in the history of the race. The route takes place in two countries now, Tyrol in Austria and the South Tyrol, Trentino area of Italy. It is part of the UCI Europe Tour which is the second most prestigious series behind the World Tour. Thanks to its date, it is a great opportunity for riders to prepare for Giro d’Italia. Several winners of the Tour of the Alps also managed to win the Grand Tour after. Like Damiano Cunego, Vincenzo Nibali and Ivan Basso. The event was cancelled last year so the defending champion is the 2019 winner, Pavel Sivakov. Who is also performing well so far. But after two stages Team BikeExchange rider Simon Yates is leading the race.

2021 Tour of the Alps winner odds favor Yates to keep his lead

Simon Yates leads 45 second ahead of Pavel Sivakov after two stages. The British rider managed to get away on the penultimate climb yesterday and won the stage ahead of his main rivals. The 2018 Vuelta winner seems to be in great form. Which can be a good sign before his main race, the 2021 Giro d’Italia. Yates finished 9th in the Volta a Catalunya and 10th in the Tirreno-Adriatico this year. But now he is the top favorite of online sportsbooks in Italy to win this race with the odds of 1.25.

Let’s race!

His main chaser, Sivakov can still catch him though in the remaining three stages. But he needs to perform a similar attack in another climb which might be a tough task for him. The Russian cyclist has won the 2019 Tour de Pologne beside this race, but hasn’t achieved similar results since. He is still only 23 years old, with lots of potential as the managers of Ineos must have thought. Which Sivakov joined in 2018 as a member of Team Sky then. Now he has the odds of 7.50 to win his third race in the 2021 Tour of the Alps winner odds.

Other GC riders with a chance to catch Yates

Another Russian rider, Aleksandr Vlasov is also mentioned in the favorites with the odds of 17.00.  He is currently in 4th place 1’08” behind Yates. But he can achieve a great result on the long climb on Thursday. The Astana rider has been in great form this season after finishing as a runner-up in 2021 Paris-Nice. He was 6th in the Classic Sud-Ardeche and 10th in the Tour de la Provence. Vlasov will also ride in the Giro, so a good result here can encourage the 24-year-old ahead of the big race.

Online gambling sites in Italy offer the odds of 29.00 for the victory of Dan Martin who is in third place at the moment. The Israel Start-Up cyclist hasn’t enjoyed a great season so far but it can change now. He finished third in the previous stage ahead of Nairo Quintana and Hugh Carty.  Martin, who has won several stages in the Grand Tours, seems to have the strength to conquer the remaining climbs as well. Unlike his teammate, four-time Tour de France winner Chris Froome who is only in 106th place in the overall standing.
