  • 2021 Wells Fargo Championship is held this week, 6-9 May in Charlotte
  • Max Homa won the last event here in 2019
  • Justin Thomas and Jon Rahm are the top favorites to win this time

The relatively new tournament in North Carolina, the Wells Fargo Championship will host the PGA Tour this weekend. Top players will compete at the Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte after the cancellation of last year’s event. Max Homa is the defending champion but he has little chance to win again according to the 2021 Wells Fargo Championship odds.

The Wells Fargo Championship was held first in 2003. Under a different name but in the same location, at the Quail Hollow Club.  In the previous winners of the tournament we can find Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Jason Day. While Max Homa won the last event in 2019 which was his first PGA Tour victory in his career. He will try to produce another great result in a strong field including five top 10 players from the world ranking. One of the last tournaments before the PGA Championship offers another opportunity to all players to get in form for the second major championship of the season. And of course, to grab a share from the $8,1 million prize fund can be a good motivation as well.

2021 Wells Fargo Championship odds favor world No2 Justin Thomas

Justin Thomas has won his only major title, the 2017 PGA Championship on this course, so surely he has great memories from the Quail Hollow Club. The 28-year-old American is in great form this season again after winning The Players Championship in March. He has the best hits right now, but has some issues with putting. If he can improve on the latter, Thomas can win his 15th PGA Tour victories. Online sportsbooks in the US favor him anyway with the odds of +900.

Another top player, world No3 Jon Rahm can be a serious contender as well according to the 2021 Wells Fargo Championship odds. The Spanish golfer only played here once. Also in the 2017 PGA Championship which might make his job more difficult. In spite of being in good form too with four top 10 finishes in his last four events. He hasn’t won any event since last summer but his odds to do so now is +1100.

McIlroy and DeChambeau in the other favorites

Rory McIlroy has already won in North Carolina twice before. In 2010 when he won his first PGA Tour victory here and in 2015. But his latest form can worry his fans. As the British player hasn’t even made the cut three times this season. While his best result of this year is a T6 finish from the World Golf Championships. He is only 15th in the world ranking at the moment, which is his lowest rank since 2009. But now McIlroy can try to find his form on this course where he has already achieved great results. With the odds of +1600 on BetOnline to win the event.

Online gambling sites in the US also mention Bryson DeChambeau in the favorites with the odds of +1200. The world No5 finished here fourth in his last appearance in 2018. And he usually performs well on these kinds of courses. The 2020 US Open winner also won this year’s Arnold Palmer Invitational and finished T3 in The Players Championship. While another player in great form is Victor Hovland who finished third last week in the Valspar Championship. He also finished T2 in the World Golf Championship back in February. The Norwegian’s odds to get his third PGA Tour victory this weekend is +1800.
