The first British PGA Championship (now known as the BMW PGA Championship) was held in 1955. This year’s tournament will be the 72nd edition. It moved to the current location at Wentworth Club in Surrey in 1984 which has been the home of the tournament ever since. It is the Premier event of the PGA European Tour (DP World Tour), with a minimum of 64 points available for the winner. English players usually perform well here as we can find Paul Casey, Luke Donald, or Tyrrell Hatton in the previous winners. But last year American golfer Billy Horschel got the win and became only the second US winner after Arnold Palmer’s victory in 1975. He will be among the favorites again just like other top players from Rory McIlroy to Jon Rahm.

2022 BMW PGA Championship Odds Favor the Top 10 Players

Rory McIlroy will make his first appearance in the tournament since 2019 but he has good memories from here. He won the event in 2014 and finished as a runner-up in 2018. The world No3 won the 2022 FedEx Cup Final aka the 2022 Tour Championship at the end of August. While he also won the RBC Canadian Open and finished third in The Open Championship. Besides finishing as a runner-up in The Masters. No wonder online sportsbooks in the UK offer the smallest odds, 7.00 for his victory.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R3sluflsAaM Another top 10 player, the world No6 Jon Rahm follows him in the 2022 BMW PGA Championship odds. The Spanish golfer also visited Wentworth in 2019 for the last time when he finished as a runner-up. His current season was less successful than McIlroy’s. But Rahm still won a PGA Tour tournament in Mexico. His odds to win now are 9.00. Matt Fitzpatrick won his first major title at the 2022 US Open and finished fifth in the 2022 PGA Championship. The 28-year-old hasn’t got such good results from this course but it might change this year. The world No10 has the odds of 12.00 to get his 9th European Tour victory.

Other Top Players From the European Tour and LIV Golf

The 2019 Open Championship winner Shane Lawry hasn’t got any win since his major title but has been playing well in this tournament. He was the runner-up in 2014 while he also has fourth and two sixth-place finishes in previous years. The Irish player also finished T3 in this year’s Masters Tournament and has the odds of 17.00 for the victory. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BW5laJY--4o The first Norwegian golfer to win at the PGA and the European Tour, Viktor Hovland is also mentioned among the favorites. He won the 2022 Dubai Desert Classic back in January and finished fourth in The Open Championship. Now his odds to get his third European Tour win are 19.00.  Online gambling sites in the UK offer the odds of 26.00 for the victory of the defending champion, Billy Horschel. The American won the Memorial Tournament this year and finished second in the Zurich Classic of New Orleans. Now he returns to Wentworth with the aim to defend his title. He will be surely welcomed by the fans. Unlike the 18 LIV Golf players who will also compete in the event. One of the biggest names from them is Lee Westwood, who was the tournament’s runner-up in 2011. The 49-year-old English player has 25 European Tour wins so far while he also played well in the last LIV Golf event in Boston. His odds to win now are 67.00. on bet365.
