The 2022 PDC World Championship starts this Wednesday, on the 15th of December. And it will conclude with the final on the 3rd of January, 2022. The best 32 players will only join in the second round but we can already find some exciting ties before that. Like Fallon Sherrock’s game against Steve Beaton or the all-German match between Florian Hempel and Martin Schindler. Let’s see the 2022 PDC World Championship first-round odds for these and other top games.

96 players take part in the 2022 PDC World Championship with the 32 highest ranked players only joining the tournament in the second round. But we can find big names already in the first round. Like former world champions Adrian Lewis and Raymond van Barneveld, young talents as Callan Rydz and Bradley Brooks. The best female players, Lisa Ahston and Fallon Sherrock, and representatives of Asia and Australia including the oldest player, Paul Lim from Singapore.  The defending champion, Gerwyn Price will make his first appearance on Wednesday. He will play against the winner of game one in which Ritchie Edhouse and Peter Hudson will meet.

2022 PDC World Championship First-round Odds Expect Easy Wins For Former Champions

Adrian Lewis hasn’t been in great form lately and he is only in 34th place in the world rankings. This also means that he has to start in the first round against Canadian Matt Campbell, who qualified through the PDC Europe Challenge Tour. Campbell also won a PDC Tour Card for next season, but he hasn’t had any win on the big stage yet. Lewis started to get back to his previous level at the end of this year after reaching the final of a Players Championship event in October. He should win this match too with the odds of 1.33 to do so. In the next round though, a very tough opponent can wait for him in Gary Anderson.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n49BgWMgv_U Online sportsbooks in the UK also favor Raymond van Barneveld to win against his first opponent, Filipino Lourence Ilagan. The winner of the Asia Philippines Qualifier will make his sixth appearance at the event but he hasn’t got any first-round win yet. Barneveld should get the win easily even though he returned to darts after a one-year break. The 2007 PDC world champion announced his retirement after his last appearance here in 2019. Then he lost against Darin Young in the first round. The 2022 PDC World Championship first-round odds expect him to win now and offer the odds of 1.28 for his victory on bet365.

Can Sherrock Make History Again?

Fallon Sherrock defeated Ted Evetts in the first round and Mensur Suljovic in the second round in the 2020 PDC World Championship. She became the first female player to win a match in the event. She surely wants to go even further this time. Sherrock reached her first PDC final at the 2021 Nordic Darts Masters but lost there against Michael van Gerwen. Now the “Queen of the Palace” will meet a tough player, the 1996 BDO world champion Steve Beaton. He will make his 31st consecutive appearance in the world championship, but his form hasn’t been too great this year. So it’s not a surprise that online gambling sites in the UK actually favor Fallon to win the game with odds of 1.80.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OezkxXOkjIM Another great woman player, Lisa Ashton has a worse chance of winning against Dutch Ron Meulenkamp according to the bookmakers. Ashton is a four-time BDO women’s world champion but hasn’t won any game in this event yet. She did defeat Aaron Beeney in the 2021 UK Open and has become the first woman to do so since 2005. Meulenkamp reached the fifth round in the same tournament which has been his best result so far. Now he has the odds of 1.36 to win the match. A more balanced game is expected between the two German players, Florian Hempel and Martin Schindler. The two of them already met in the final of the PDC Europe Super League where Schindler won 11-10. Now Hempel can take revenge on his debut appearance.
