  • European Championship is held 29 October-1 November in Germany
  • Top 32 players are taking part based on their performance in the European Tour
  • Michael van Gerwen is the favorite but he is only the 5th seed

The 13th edition of the Darts European Championship will be held this week between the 29th of October and 1st of November in Oberhausen, Germany. The top 32 players will play in the tournament including defending champion Rob Cross. But in the Darts European Championship 2020 odds world No1 Michael van Gerwen is the top favorite again.

The Order of Merit for the European Championship is based only on prize money won in the previous four European tour events. Which resulted in world No16 Joe Cullen being the top seed after winning the International Darts Open last weekend in Germany. He will face the 32nd seed player, Irish William O’Connor on the first day. The 2nd seed Gerwyn Price meets the 31st player, Belgian Kim Huybrechts and so on. The tournament starts on Thursday, with the final taking place on Sunday evening. Rob Cross is the defending champion after defeating Price 11-6 in the final last year. But he will have a tough task to defend his title in this strong field.

Darts European Championship 2020 odds predict the usual favorites

No surprise in the odds of online sportsbooks in Germany as they favor world No1 Michael van Gerwen to win the tournament with the smallest odds, 4.00. He is still leading the world ranking in spite of his less confident performance this season. Of course, Van Gerwen is still a great player even if hasn’t won as many events as before. But he reached several finals like the International Darts Open last week, where he lost against Joe Cullen 8-5. Last year the Dutch star was knocked out in the first round of the tournament by the later winner, but it’s not likely to happen again. He will start against Lithuanian Darius Labanauskas, who makes his debut in the tournament.

Darts European Championship 2020 odds
Let’s play!

Second seed Gerwyn Price has the odds of 5.00 to win in the Darts European Championship 2020 odds. He is in a better form than his big rival, as he won the World Grand Prix for the first time earlier this month. Price also won the World Series of Darts Finals in September beating Rob Cross in the final. The Welsh will be a player to watch for sure and can meet another favorite, Peter Wright in the last 16. The current world champion and world No3 is only the 15th seed here. He got three wins in the Players Championship and reached the semi-finals both at the Premier League Darts playoff and the World Series of Darts Finals. His odds to win now is 5.50 on bet365.

New names are also mentioned with a chance to win

Nathan Aspinall is world No6 and has already achieved some great successes. Like winning the 2019 UK Open or playing in the Premier League Darts final this year. He lost the match there against Glen Durrant but he won two events in this year’s Players Championship. Aspinall has the odds of 11.00 to go all the way here. While online gambling sites in Germany offer quite high odds, 26.00  for the victory of the top seed of the tournament, Joe Cullen.

Cullen as we mentioned is having a superb month after winning a European Tour event and reaching the quarter-final of the World Grand Prix in Coventry. He got to the semi-final in the 2018 European Championship and has a chance to improve on his result now. Another player who got his breakthrough this year is South African Devon Petersen who won his first ranking title, the German Darts Championship. The event was part of the European Tour which explains why he is the 4th seed in the event and has the odds of 13.00 for causing another surprise.
