Another Euro 2016 matchday and yet another set of exciting encounters. Let’s see the most passionate events at Euro 2016 third round!

Fantastic comebacks, passionate moments and emotional goal celebrations. These attributes conclude the Euro 2016 third round as many exciting things were going on. Let’s see what happened at Euro 2016 third round!

Group A: Goalless draw at France v Switzerland

France and Switzerland both already qualified for the Round of 16 when they faced each other at Euro 2016 third round. Hence as expected by all betting news in France, the game was not very excited. The goalless draw was the perfect result for both sides and so they didn’t put too much effort into entertaining the fans or stuff like that.

France won the group and Switzerland went as runner-ups. Albania defeated Romania by 1-0 in the last game and these 3 points secured them the third place. However, it didn’t earn them the right to qualify for the Euro 2016 Round of 16 as they were the weakest third-placed team at the Euro 2016 group stage.

Group B: Wales beats Russia and wins the group

Wales played against Russia and well, we all knew that Russia are not the strongest team of this tournament, but nobody would have expected such an easy defeat: Wales scored 3 and conceded none. This was the 6th point for Wales and that’s why they won the group ahead of England and Slovakia. Gareth Bale scored on each and every one of his Euro 2016 games so far, will his series ever end?

England and Slovakia played a boring goalless draw on the other match of Group B. Both teams qualified for the Euro 2016 Round of 16. Slovakia will meet World Cup holder Germany while England’s opponent in the next round will be Iceland. England will be favourites to qualify for the quarter finals, while Slovakia would upset the odds by winning over Joachim Löw’s men.

Group C: Germany, Poland and Northern Ireland qualified

Group C passed on in a pretty boring way. Germany defeated Northern Ireland by 1-0 and this meant Germany won the group by 7 points. They didn’t concede a single goal so far at Euro 2016. Poland also collected 7 points but Germany scored one goal more so they are only runner-ups while Northern Ireland is third and also qualified for the Euro 2016 Round of 16.

Group D: Croatia surprise Spain

The biggest derby at Group D was the Croatia v Spain battle where the title-holder Spaniard were regarded as the favourites for the encounter according to all those who frequently bet on sports in France. They even took the lead thanks to top scorer Morata, who was just bought back by Real Madrid, and is the top scorer at Euro 2016 together with Gareth Bale with 3 goals. However, the Croatians came back and won the game 2-1 and won the group with this success.

Turkey won their last game at Euro 2016 against Czech Republic, however it was not enough for them to qualify for the Euro 2016 Round of 16 as they were only the 5th best third-placed team and only 4 could qualify. Group D gives “only” Croatia and Spain to the next round, their opponents will be Portugal and Italy respectively.

Group E:

Both games at Group E ended by a 1-0 victory for both Ireland and Belgium. Ireland defeated Italy and hence qualified on the third place. The Irish fans at Euro 2016 are about to entertain us for a bit longer thanks to their victory. Hopefully we will be able to continue with our collection of their best moments at Euro 2016.

On the other hand, Belgium went second as Italy won the group with 6 points. Sweden said goodbye to the tournament but the worst news is that the defeat against Belgium was the very last game for Zlatan Ibrahimovic for the Swedish national team. Not really the farewell he deserves.

Group F: Cristiano’s best Euro performance was enough for a draw against Hungary

According to online sportsbooks in France, Portugal were clear favourites against Hungary. Their odds were around 1.45, while Hungary’s were above 7. However, this is not the tournament when Hungary gives much about odds and chances. Bernd Storck’s men took the lead early in the first half with a perfect shot from far away by the Magical Magyar, Zoltán Gera. The Hungarian celebration lasted until the end of the first half when Nani equalized thanks to Cristiano Ronaldo’s assist.

Dzsudzsak

Everyone should have thought that Portugal will come back and defeat a tired and unmotivated Hungary in the second half as they already qualified while Portugal are fighting for Euro 2016 Round of 16 qualification. That’s not really what happened though: Hungarian captain Balázs Dzsudzsák scored from a free kick and a lot of luck.

Ronaldo equalized in a few minutes with a beautiful back heel goal but Dzsudzsák didn’t mind it too much: only 5 minutes later, Hungary star Dzsudzsák’s free kick hit the wall but he collected the ball, shot again and scored again. Portugal equalized for the third time thanks to Ronaldo’s header and that set the final result to 3-3 at the best match at Euro 2016 third round, but probably even the entire tournament.

On the other match at Group F Iceland were playing against Austria took the lead early on. Austria missed a penalty in the first half and equalized in the second. However, Iceland did win the game with a last minute score from Traustason, which put Iceland in the runner-up position while Hungary won Group F. Portugal went third and will face Croatia in the next round. Learn more about the Euro 2016 Round of 16 odds and chances here.
