  • French magazine L’Equipe published the list
  • Lionel Messi is leading the list just like in 2019
  • He is earning €8,3 million monthly before tax deductions
Lionel Messi is leading the list of the highest-paid footballers 2020 made by French magazine L’Equipe. It’s not a big surprise and the other names in the top 10 either, but the amounts they earn are still shocking. Let’s see them in detail. Everyone is aware of the huge salaries of the top football players, but to see them in print can raise many people’s blood pressure. Anyway, they are the greatest players currently and most of them truly deserve their fat checks. And we shouldn’t forget that their clubs are earning huge amounts as well thanks to them and their performances.

Top 10 highest paid footballers 2020

10. Robert Lewandowski

We find the only player from the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich’s top striker, Robert Lewandowski in the 10th place. He is earning €1,7 million monthly, which is not bad for a player starting his career in Znicz Pruszkow, a third-division Polish team. Of course, since then he had an amazing career, joining first Borussia Dortmund, then German top club Bayern Munich in 2014. He is really worth every cent after scoring 25 goals in 23 appearances this season.

9. David de Gea

In the 9th place we have the only player from the Premier League and the only goalkeeper in the top 10, David de Gea. Though he is one of the best goalkeepers at the moment, he is capable of making huge errors. Like he did one in Manchester United’s game against Everton a couple of weeks ago. But the club owners haven’t forgotten about his big saves which helped Manchester to avoid a defeat many times. That could explain the monthly salary of €1,8 million.

8. Kylian Mbappe

The young French star, Kylian Mbappe was signed by Paris Saint-Germain for €180 million which was the second-highest amount paid for any player. No wonder that his monthly salary is high as well, it is €1,9 million. At the age of only 21, he is already a world champion with the French team. He even scored in the 2018 World Cup final and was voted as the best young player in the tournament. And surely it would have been one of the best in the Euro2020 as well, which has been postponed to next year now. All the odds for 2021 are already available on bet365.

7. Eden Hazard

The Belgium midfielder joined Real Madrid last summer from Chelsea, which seems to be a good decision, at least if we check the financial benefits. Surely his salary wasn’t bad either in London but didn’t reach €2,5 million which is his current one. And even though he hasn’t reached his best form in Madrid yet due to injuries, he is still one of the best players at the moment.

6. Gareth Bale

Online sportsbooks in Spain have been writing a lot about Gareth Bale’s possible departure from Real in the last few transfer windows. But he is still there and earning €2,5 million each month. No one knows for how long though as Bale is not playing regularly and Zidane is not counting on him in his plans. But after a failed move to a Chinese club last summer, he wasn’t signed by any club this winter either. The most likely option is his return to Tottenham, where he would be welcomed warmly. But his move can fail on his high salary expectations, which would be too much for the Londoners.

5. Luis Suarez

And now let’s go to the other Spanish club, FC Barcelona where we find three of the top 5 highest paid footballers 2020. In fifth place, we have the Uruguayan bad guy, Luis Suarez who is earning €3 million per month. He joined Barcelona in 2014 and has been a crucial part of the team. Especially after Neymar left the club. His absence due to an injury can be felt deep in the team, which seems to struggle this season. He surely would have played the main role in his national team at Copa America, which is also postponed for next year. Uruguay has the odds of 9.00 to win the tournament at bet365

4. Antoine Griezmann

The teammate of Suarez, French forward Antoine Griezmann has a similar, €3 million per month salary. The world champion joined the team this season from Atletico Madrid, where he was a real goal machine. But fitting into his new club wasn’t going perfectly, Griezmann has scored 14 goals and four assists in his 34 appearances. These figures are not enough at the Blaugrana, so there are rumors on online sportsbook news in Spain that he might be sold in the summer. That would be a shocking decision from the club which paid €120 million for the player only a year ago. But Griezmann’s faith might depend on the following player’s decision.

3. Neymar Jr

The Brazilian is currently the player of Paris Saint-Germain after joining them for a record fee of  €222 million. But after missing the first half of the season due to an injury, talks were getting louder about his possible return to Barcelona. Surely he wouldn’t move back for more money as he is currently earning €3 million as well. But it feels like he hasn’t really found his place in Paris, even though his teammates are all top players. And finally this season the team managed to get to the quarter-finals in the Champions League after Neymar’s contribution.  Hopefully, we can see them soon but until UCL is back, you can check out the latest virtual games on bet365

2. Cristiano Ronaldo

In the second place, we find the five-time Ballons d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo. The Portuguese is earning €4,5 million each month, a lot more than third-placed Neymar. But probably no one can argue that he is one of the best football players of all time. He won five Champions League titles, one with Manchester United and four with Real Madrid. Cristiano made more than 1000 appearances and scored more than 700 goals so far. And he also became European Champion in 2016 with the Portuguese team.  Ronaldo moved to his current club, Juventus in 2018 where he has the same amazing goal-record as before. And other information about him that you might not be aware that he spends a lot on charity and donations. He is one of the most generous athletes.

1.Lionel Messi

As you could guess even at the start, yes, Lionel Messi is the highest-paid footballer in 2020 with his monthly salary of €8,3 million. Wow, that’s almost double of even Ronaldo’s salary, Messi is truly loved and appreciated by his club, FC Barcelona. Well, he is carrying his team almost alone this season after the injury of Suarez, scoring 19 goals and having 12 assists in La Liga. The six-time Ballon d’Or winner has won everything with Barca, 34 trophies so far. He hasn’t been so successful with the Argentine team, though they reached the final of the 2014 World Cup, but lost there against Germany. Messi is crucial for Barcelona and he is the best player in the world. Like Ronaldo, he is also donating a lot to different charities and causes, he is a UNICEF goodwill ambassador since 2010. Let’s hope he is paying his taxes as well now correctly, which could be a lot from this salary.
