The new poker film, Molly’s Game, will star Idris Elba according to its director Aaron Sorkin. It tells the story of the so-called “Poker Princess”…

There’s a new poker film on its way, the first movie directed by screenwriter Aaron Sorkin. Jessica Chastain is likely to play the lead, and Sorkin revealed that she’ll be starring alongside Wire-star Idris Elba. The new poker film, Molly’s Game, is based on “Poker Princess” Molly Bloom who went from Olympic-hopeful skier to hosting high-stakes poker games with regulars including Leonardo DiCaprio and Ben Affleck.

It is reported that Elba will play Bloom’s lawyer. Sorkin released a statement proclaiming that the “casting of Jessica and Idris in the two lead roles is any filmmaker’s dream come true. They’re two of the greatest actors of their generation, paired for hte first time, and their chemistry will be electric.

New poker film to dramatise the games where movie stars played for millions

While the casting of Edris and Chastain is likely but not officially confirmed, those who played in the high-stakes poker games are unlikely to be so keen to appear. Stars like Affleck and Damon went to these games to avoid the scrutiny of US poker rooms. Despite being painted as nice guys and talented players in Bloom’s book Molly’s Game, they probably won’t be delighted by the publicity.

Tobey Maguire will be especially keen to avoid publicity of the film, as he was savaged in the book: he was portrayed as a talented player but also stingy and vindictive. One occasion, she wrote, that he offered a tip only on the condition that Bloom barked as a seal.

This new poker film is likely to be filled with drama, as Molly Bloom originally gained public attention when gambling news revealed that the FBI had closed down her popular games. Her story from missing out on the Olympics as a skier to hosting these games, through a mixture of luck and business savy, will be sure to attract gambling fans to the cinema.
