Jordan Team Timeline in F1 (1990-2005)

Eddie Jordan, a former racing driver, founded the Jordan team in 1990. They entered Formula 1 with drivers Bertrand Gachot and Andrea de Cesaris in 1991. The early years were challenging, with limited success on the track. In 1991, Jordan made its most significant achievement in its early history by switching Bertrand Gachot with Michael Schumacher for one race, launching the German’s F1 career. Schumacher’s talent was evident, and he was bought by Benetton’s manager, Flavio Briatore, right after the race. Throughout the mid-1990s, Jordan Grand Prix forged partnerships with various engine suppliers and sponsors, including Yamaha, Hart, and Peugeot. The team’s performance improved, and they regularly scored points and podium finishes. In 1997, Giancarlo Fisichella impressed the world by taking Jordan to 3rd in Canada and 2nd in Belgium. In 1998, Jordan signed Damon Hill, the 1996 Formula 1 World Champion, as their lead driver, who was joined by Heinz-Harald Frentzen next year. This partnership resulted in Jordan’s best stint between 1998 and 1999, finishing fourth and third in the Constructors’ Championship and securing their first race win at the Belgian Grand Prix with Damon Hill behind the wheel. In 1999, Frentzen won two races and fought for the championship until the penultimate race.

Jordan’s Transitional Period (2006-2007)

The early 2000s saw Jordan Grand Prix falling behind financially, which led to changes in their ownership. Despite occasional success, such as Fisichella’s win in Brazil in 2003, when almost everyone retired, in 2005,, the team was sold to the Midland Group and rebranded as Midland Racing F1.

The rebranded team did not manage to finish 2006 with points; moreover, they were bought by the Spyker manufacturer before the season was finished. Force India and Racing Point (2008-2020)

Jordan's team timeline in F1 continued with their rebranding as Force India Formula 1 Team. In 2008, Indian businessman named Vijay Mallya and a consortium of investors acquired Spyker F1, marking a new era for the team, aiming for improved performance and stability. Under the Force India name, the team experienced a significant performance improvement, regularly scoring points and challenging for podium finishes. Financial challenges resurfaced for Force India in 2018, leading to the team entering administration. Canadian businessman Lawrence Stroll led a consortium to acquire the team’s assets, saving it from collapse.
