Kevin Lee Might be the Man to Beat Conor McGregor

Only days after his amazing submission win over Magomed Mustafaev, many in the MMA community believe Kevin Lee may have the perfect style to beat Conor McGregor.

As of right now, there’s still no clear blueprint on exactly how to defeat Conor McGregor. Since his UFC debut, the general consensus was the Irishman was a threat on the feet, but take him down to the mat and his offense will be stifled. Up to this point however, this has been easier said than done.

Only two fighters have really been able to capitalize on McGregor’s apparent grappling vulnerability. The first was Chad Mendes, who on just two weeks notice was able to consistently take Conor down and land a number of devastating strikes. The second was Nate Diaz, who famously made US gambling news back in March by choking McGregor out in the second round.

Now, it looks like Kevin Lee might have the perfect style to force McGregor to the mat. He is without a doubt one of the strongest wrestlers at 155 pounds, with a powerful blast double and ridiculous lifting strength against the cage. Once on the ground, Lee has elite submission skills, with two rear-naked choke victories in his nine UFC fights.

When will both men fight next?

Both Lee and McGregor are coming off recent wins, and neither fighter has been scheduled for their next fight. It seems likely that Kevin Lee will be taking on someone in the top 15 in his next bout, and with a few more performances like his latest over Mustafaev, he could soon be vying for his shot to beat Conor McGregor.

In a previous article we covered who Conor McGregor’s next opponent will be, but as of now it is purely speculative. Dana White confirmed that Conor will be taking time off to prepare for fatherhood, but is tentatively scheduled for a bout sometime in mid-to-late 2017. A number of online sportsbooks in the US are already allowing their members to wager on who the notorious one will face in his return. Right now, Nate Diaz is the betting favorite.

There’s no denying Kevin Lee is a special talent in MMA. At just 24 years old he still has plenty of time to evolve, but with his combination of elite wrestling, dangerous submissions, and constantly improving striking, he may just have the perfect style to beat Conor McGregor.
