Poker is the most popular card game with millions of players taking part in it all over the world. The best poker players can also compete in different major tournaments, where they can win really huge amounts of money. Most of these events are held in top casinos and are invitations-only. With some of them also being open for amateur players. But if you’d like to take part in these events you’d need lots of cash for the registration fee. Of course, the prizes are huge as well, making the winners rich and famous. Like Bryn Kennedy who has already earned more than $56 million through different poker tournaments. So if you’d like to follow his sample, these are the tournaments you can win really big.

World Series of Poker Is One Of the Most Famous Poker Tournaments

Many people consider the World Series of Poker, aka WSOP the biggest poker tournament. Well, it goes back to a long history as the first tournament was held in 1970 in Las Vegas, in Benny Binion’s Horseshoe Casino. Only seven players were invited to this inaugural event with Johnny Moss becoming the first “World Champion of Poker”. Since then of course lots of things have changed and the WSOP has turned into the biggest poker tournament in the world. Now it consists of more than 100 different satellite events with the majority of them being a variety of Texas hold’em.

This year the World Series of Poker is taking place between the 30th of September and the 23rd of November. The main event, the No Limit Hold’em has a $10,000 entrance fee. But nevertheless, it still attracts thousands of players who all want to take home the multi-million dollar top prize. The winner also receives the iconic bracelet and the title of World Champion. What makes it one of the most famous poker tournaments in the world is the opportunity to be there through online poker tournaments. Like some of the later winners did. Eg. Chris Moneymaker won the main event in 2003 after only paying  $39 to be there. Don’t forget to visit the biggest online poker sites in the US and get some experience before a big event.

The biggest online tournament: The WCOOP

The World Championship of Online Poker is another very popular tournament. It was established in 2002 when only 238 players took part in it. The  WCOOP has been held every September ever since. But this year more than 1,428 000 entries have been made. And a total of 306 tournaments were held in the three-week period. The largest online poker tournament has a similar format as the World Series with different poker games and buy-in levels.

The main event is also the No Limit Hold’em with a $10 million prize pool this year. The Russian CrazyLissy won the event and almost $1,5 million. You can read more about him in our previous article. What really makes this tournament so famous is the relatively easy access to compete in it. As you don’t have to travel anywhere, just sit in front of your computer. And in many occasions, the buy-in fee is less than even $10. So if you’d like to try it yourself, just play some online poker at one of the online casinos in the US.

World and European Poker Tour

We also have to mention in our list of the most famous poker tournaments the World Poker Tour, which also started in 2002. The televised tournament is played internationally but most events are still held in the US. Just like the season-ending event, the WPT World Championship where the winner also receives the title as the WPT Champion. We can also find two online events in this season’s schedule held on partypoker. While the last event in 2021 will be held at the Bellagio Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, with a $10,400 buy-in fee.

The winner of the first Poker Million (a former European poker tournament), John Duthie started the European Poker Tour in 2004. In 2011 PokerStars took control of this tournament and has been the owner ever since. The EPT only has tournaments in the old continent with events taking place in cities like Barcelona, London, and Monte Carlo. The PokerStars Caribbean Adventure tournament was also part of it between 2008 and 2019 but sadly it was canceled in 2020. Even though it was another famous event in the world of poker in a beautiful location in the Bahamas. But the European Poker Tour still goes on this season with the next events being hosted in Prague and Sochi.

Triton Poker

It might not be as famous, but Triton Poker offers some of the biggest prizes in its tournaments. We can play in its events all around the world from the Philippines to Montenegro, but be careful as the buy-in fees are often as high as $25,000. At the same time, the prizes are also high and can reach even $23 million. So it’s not surprising that usually, professional poker players and businessmen compete in it. This series hosted the biggest buy-in event in the history of poker in 2019 when the buy-in fee was  $1 million. The participating 54 players also paid an extra  $50,000 with the total amount of  $2,7 million going to different organizations. The winner could take home a massive $19 million in this huge event. But if you’d be happy with a smaller prize money, visit the Intertops Poker website for lots of opportunities to win.
