Blackjack is the most widely played casino banking game in the world. You can play it land-based and online casinos too. Several different types exist from the most common American and European versions to the more special ones. In our article below we’ve collected the most popular blackjack variations, so let’s keep reading to learn more about this popular game.

Blackjack descends from the big family of the casino banking game, Twenty-One. In this game, players don’t compete against each other but the dealer. The basic rules are simple but there are some special phrases and tricks that are useful to know before playing. Most players are familiar with the two main types of blackjack, the American and European versions. But you can also come across other variations with some special rules added to them.

Face Up Blackjack

As its name suggests, in Face Up Blackjack the cards are dealt face-up, giving the players a big advantage. In exchange, there are special rules in this version. For example, the players may only double down on 10 and 11 and not after splitting. If you’re a beginner, you might not know that doubling down means increasing the initial bet by 100% and taking exactly one more card. There are other rules favoring the dealer in Face Up Blackjack. Like the dealer’s blackjack beats the player’s blackjack and blackjack only pays even money. The house edge of this game is 0,69% which is worse than the normal versions. Still, seeing the dealer’s card might be worth playing with one of the most popular blackjack variations.

Most Popular Blackjack Variations: Perfect Pairs Blackjack

Perfect Pairs Blackjack has the same rules as the classic version, but players can also make an extra side bet. You can guess if the first two cards you’re dealt with will be the same or not. If your pair is any two cards of the same value, you get paid out at 5:1.

If the two cards are the same value, same color, but a different suit, you get paid at 10:1. But if the two cards are the same rank and same suit, you hit a “Perfect Pair,” and get paid at 30:1. So this version of the game just offers you an extra opportunity to win with the house edge of 6%. But the other rules of the game remain the same. You can find this version on most online casino sites in the US like Everygame Casino

Spanish 21

In this popular version of blackjack, the “10” cards are taken out, making it harder for the players to win. But other rules are making up for this. Like allowing doubling down on any numbers and after splitting. While aces may be hit and re-split. A player blackjack always beats a dealer blackjack unlike in other versions. There are also bonus payouts for five or more cards 21s, 6-7-8, and 7-7-7 21s. A gaming publishing company from Colorado, Masque Publishing, owns this variant. Like in Perfect Pairs, you can also make a side bet in Spanish 21. In this “Match the Dealer” bet a player wins if his card matches the dealer’s upcard.

Most Popular Blackjack Variations: Super Fun 21

In this player-friendly version, you can automatically win if your hand has six cards or more totaling 20. Also if you’re totaling 21 with five or more cards.

The blackjack only pays even money though except it consists of two diamonds. Split aces may be hit or doubled and any pair may be split up to four times. Thanks to these and other special rules, you can find different strategies to play this game. But one of the best ways to improve your skills is to practice them for free on one of the online gambling sites in the US.

Blackjack Switch

Last but not least we have Blackjack Switch in the most popular blackjack variations. In this game, you can make two bets and get two hands. Then you have the option to trade the second card of each hand. Double down before and after splitting is also permitted, as well as re-split aces. Natural blackjacks are paid 1:1 instead of the standard 3:2. But in this version if the dealer makes a 22, is not a bust, it’s a push.
