Thai gambling laws can be considered to be some of the strictest around. At this point only two forms of gambling are permitted in this beautiful country, placing bets on horse races and taking part in the national lottery.

Regular sportsbetting, poker, bingo and casino style games are all illegal and these laws are taken very seriously. As they say, “Where there’s a will, there’s a way,” and Thailand is a great example of this.

Despite the very oppressive gambling laws which are in place, gambling in Thailand is, indeed, a very big business. The illegal gambling market in the nation has blossomed and continues to grow every day.

If a citizen of Thailand should wish to gamble legally, his or her only chance is to do so at online casinos in Thailand. Being that the government does not recognize or license such establishments, they too are frowned upon. On the other hand, these internet gambling institutions are usually located in a nation where gambling is legal and, therefore, fall outside the Thai governments jurisdiction, making punishment impossible.

For those who wish to gamble not only legally, without getting tied up in internet gambling in Thailand either, options are currently expanding. Whereas Macau has been the closest gambling hub with a luxurious atmosphere that Thais can enjoy for quite some time now, new options are being considered on a regular basis.

It was recently announced that a branch of MGM Casinos will be opened in Vietnam. The new Vietnamese beachside resort will include 550 rooms, 90 gaming tables and 500 slot machines initially. The development is licensed for up to 180 tables and 1000 slot machines. This establishment will be closer and much more accessible to the people of Thailand.
