To look at the polling, a bet on Joe Biden to win the White House seems a pretty safe bet. He’s maintaining a seven point lead over the President nationally. Of course, it’s only the swing states that matter, but even those seem ebbing Joe Biden’s way. That’s why the odds on Donald Trump winning in 2020 have drifted out again at online sportsbook sites in the US like Bovada. It would appear the President has an uphill battle on his hands in this, the final week of the election.

For a while, it appeared the odds on Donald Trump winning in 2020 were moving in the right direction. Unfortunately for those of you who’ve bet on the Republicans, it didn’t last. New polling numbers show Joe Biden well ahead, and worryingly even some red states going blue. Both Texas and Georgia, Republican stalwarts, seem now to be in play for the Democrats. It’s been a long time since you could bet on the Democrats winning Texas. Or even contesting Georgia.

This, alas, is probably the writing on the wall for the Trump administration. Even being a single point behind in Texas is shocking for the GOP. Georgia being in the balance a knockout blow. If he can’t win Georgia you really shouldn’t bet on Donald Trump. The odds on Donald Trump winning in 2020 at Bovada may look tempting, but it’s just not a wise wager. It would be like a bet on sports in the US returning to normal before Christmas. Just not really in step with reality.

US Presidential Election Odds

  • Donald Trump – 7/4
  • Joe Biden – 10/21

2020 House Winner Odds

  • Republicans – 9/2
  • Democrats – 1/8

Not that you can entirely count him out. Everyone knows this election is unlikely to be over on the 3rd of November. Regardless of result there will be innumerable recounts, likely legal challenges and other less savory issues. The odds on Donald Trump winning in 2020 might be lengthening but he could still do it. It just might not be at the ballot box. This is 2020. Anyone in the US gambling laws of honor and decency prevent chicanery after the fact need to wake up.

Odds On Donald Trump Winning In 2020 Slip Away

The odds on Republicans backing the President in challenging a loss at the polls are, thankfully, quite slim. That sort of stand against the democratic will of the people never ends well. Even the GOP know that. However, you can’t bet on US politics to be predictable. Not this year. Perhaps the odds on Donald Trump winning in 2020 are wholly wrong and he’ll surprise everyone again. It’s certainly possible. However, there is one indicator that this could all be over for Trump now. The turnout.

2020 Senate Winner Odds

  • Republicans – 2/1
  • Democrats – 4/7

Some sixty million Americans have already voted. That’s a massive increase in early voting from previous elections. At this rate, this will be the highest election turnout since 1908. That bodes well for Biden. A high turnout always favors the left. So, the odds on Donald Trump winning in 2020 at Bovada, and other online betting sites in the US, could actually be generous. He may have far less chance on retaining the White House than even the hedging bookies give him credit for.
