The Scots will savor their victory over England at Twickenham. Rightfully so. It was a glorious win. However, as much as it’ll please Scottish Rugby fans it also pleases those of us who like to bet on sports in the UK. The odds on the Six Nations that Bet365 tout are now more interesting than they were. Sure, the French are still out in front. That hasn’t changed. But now, the Scots could well threaten that as much as the English do. They might even win the trophy this time.

“We were a long way off our best and I take responsibility for that.” Said England coach Eddie Jones after Scotland beat them in their first-round tie. “It is what it is.” He continued. “We did not perform at the level we intended to.” Which is a tad dismissive of the fact the 11-6 defeat was England’s first loss to the Scots at home since 1983. Shifting the odds on the Six Nations, Scotland taking home the Calcutta Cup is, however, good news for sports betting in the UK. Prior to this, the French were almost certain to run away with it. They remain firm favorites. At online betting sites in the UK like Bet365, they get 6/5. However now instead of just worrying about the English, the Scots too loom on the horizon. This means the French will face a far tougher time in rounds three and four. Not only will England try to make up for that embarrassing loss but the Scots will attempt to run rampant with their newfound spirit. It could be very tricky.

Scotland Could Challenge France For Tournament Win

Unlike their first-round game. The French met Italy in their tournament opener and were easy victors. They won 50-10 proving once again the Italians are the whipping boys of this contest. When Eddie Jones says the next game for England is a “great opportunity” it’s only because playing the Italians is good for the ego. The odds on the Six Nations probably won’t change when England trounce Italy, but at least they’ll feel better about themselves. Big score lines do that.

Wales, on the other hand, now go from a hard-fought win against Ireland at home to face the Scots at Murrayfield. It’s unlikely they’re looking forward to it. The Scots demonstrated some superb cohesive skills that will give the Welsh some trouble. Indeed the odds on the Six Nations may well shift Scotland above England in due course. Online sportsbook sites in the UK like Bet365 have already moved the Scots up to 4/1. If England fails to impress in their next game...

Fortunately, it is quite hard not to impress against the Italians. Likewise, the French are probably not going to fall on their faces in Dublin next weekend. The Irish side are by no means as weak as their results imply, but they’ll be outclassed by Charles Ollivon and Co. Their odds on the Six Nations are likely to languish. Both Ireland and Wales share the 7/1 slot at present with only the Italians at longer prices. Admittedly far, far longer prices. The Italians get 1000/1 to win the cup.

The real question now is; Can England fight their way back into contention? The easy Italian win aside after the loss to the Scots the Welsh and Irish both have to think they’ve a hope. They’ll see the weaknesses. Sense the opportunity. So taking advantage of UK gambling laws to back that 4/1 England get is probably not all that smart. The smart money will shift now to Scotland who at the same price have far more chance to surprise the French and win the whole tournament.
