Those who regularly bet on sports in India will already be familiar with the teams in the Indian Premier League. This is the thirteenth incarnation of this vibrant tournament, this year held in the UAE for obvious reasons. With barely weeks to go before the teams square off the odds on the 2020 IPL are a matter of close inspection. Sadly, for some teams, that examination will find the bookies believing their side a tad wanting. Still, at this level of cricket, any dog can have his day. You simply can’t count them out. Sure, the bookies might give them the longest odds, but that’s no guarantee of failure. You can always bet on T20 cricket to be exciting, but mix in big names from across the world? It’s always going to be explosive. So right now it might not appear a bet on the Rajasthan Royals isn’t a very good idea. The bookies give them just 10/1 to win the league. However, do remember their having the longest odds on the 2020 IPL doesn’t mean much.  Now obviously the change of venue and over-arching situation means there won’t be any fans. We’ll all, alas, be taking advantage of Indian gambling laws on Bet365 at home this year. So the odds on the 2020 IPL may mislead a little. After all, they’re based on past performance and this won’t be anything like the past. One thing that won’t have changed, however, are the players and some of them might surprise us yet. This is hardly a collection of no-hopers they’re fielding.

Stokes Could Provide A Surprise Or Two

Can the odds on the 2020 IPL perhaps be wrong? 10/1 for a team lead by Steve Smith? One that features Jofra Archer, Tom Curran and Jos Buttler? It seems a tad parsimonious, doesn’t it? Plus you have the eternal one-man-surprise-machine, Ben Stokes, on the side. That means literally anything is possible and suddenly they’re less of a silly wager. Sure, they may struggle a bit if their overseas stars don’t fire on all cylinders, but that’s true of most sides in the IPL each year.  Only just ahead of them, and perhaps just as likely to win despite the odds on the 2020 IPL the bookies are doling out, is the Kings XI Punjab. Online sportsbook sites in India like Bet365 only give them 8/1, but their batting line up is excellent. Even better, this year they’re letting KL Rahul take the reins. This may give them a new approach and mentality that could make up for some of their tricky selection issues. Beyond their core batsmen, there’s some unhelpful overlap.

No one will dispute that 8/1 is a delicious price on a side like this. Featuring Mayank Agarwal, Chris Gayle, Glenn Maxwell and Nicholas Pooran at the crease they’re top-notch. However whilst they can run up big scores limiting the opposition is more difficult for them. Sure, they have Ishan Porel but that’s not the depth they may need. Not with Mohammed Shami around. So these long odds on the 2020 IPL are again perhaps a little disingenuous. The side is no walkover. A lot will depend on KL Rahul’s leadership. You can expect to see their odds on the 2020 IPL close up real fast if he draws them together. That 8/1 at online betting sites in India like Bet365 could well turn out to be the best price you’ll get on them. Certainly writing them off might be a touch cavalier. Indeed a speculative bet on the Kings XI Punjab could turn out to be an excellent bet on the 2020 IPL. There’s just no way of knowing how this one is going to turn out at the end.
