With so many big news stories breaking around the world over the last seven days we take a moment to look back at some of the most important.

In the United States former FBI chief Robert Mueller convened a Grand Jury in Washington to pursuit his investigation of claims that President Donald Trump, via members of his family and entourage, colluded with the Russians during the 2016 Election. The special counsel has requested documents pertaining to Michael Flynn, the National Security Advisor who was forced to resign over his connections with the Russians, and has told senior members of the FBI they may be called as witnesses.

In Russia President Vladimir Putin took a holiday for a couple of days in the remote and wild Tuva region of southern Siberia enjoying a number of outdoor pursuits including fishing, rafting and hiking (by comparison Donald Trump is spending 17 days playing golf at his own resort). Images of Putin on his short vacation focused on the “physical fitness of the President”, something they underline frequently. He was joined on the trip by the Defense minister Sergei Shoigu, who is from the region.

In Venezuela a military base was attacked by men claiming to be a rebellion against the unpopular government of President Nicolas Maduro. Half the men taking part in the raid were either killed, wounded or captured according to official sources, and the other half were being “actively searched for” and described as “terrorists” by the state whilst Captain Juan Caguaripano, leader of the group, used twitter to describe the raid as a success in which “objectives were achieved satisfactorily”.

In sports the expected golden goodbye of legendary sprinter Usain Bolt was soured a little as he was beaten over the line at the 2017 World Championships in by Justin Gatlin the US athlete once banned for doping. Bolt was gracious in defeat, the crowd booed Gatlin as he received his medal. Will he ever be accepted after what he did? You’ll have to read our daily news pages to find out, but in the meantime here’s a look at some of the big news stories from around the world we covered over the last week.

Meanwhile an Australian teenager went paddling on Brighton Beach in Melbourne only to be attacked by a flesh eating sea lice that left his feet and ankles bloody and painful. “My first instinct was that I must have stepped on a rock, but I realized that couldn’t have been it because it was evenly distributed over my whole ankle and foot.” Said 16 year old Sam Kanizay. Marine experts and doctors are at a loss as to why sea lice would be so hostile and carnivorous. Sam was released from hospital after treatment.
