The most prestigious darts competition is almost set to begin, and now is the time to place your bet on the Champions League of Darts!

Michael van Gerwen: Even Odds

The number-one ranked darts player in the world, Michael van Gerwen, is the favorite to win the 2016 Champions League of Darts, and for good reason. The 27-year-old Dutchman has been a professional player since 2002, and holds an impressive number of championship titles.

Most recently, Gerwen won the UK Open with massive 11-4 lead over fellow top-player Peter Wright. Gerwen has won the World Matchplay, Premier League, and the Masters in 2016 as well. He throws at a very fast pace and is known for quickly building momentum over his competitors.

It’s no surprise that Michael van Gerwen is PaddyPower’s favorite to win the 2016 Champions League of Darts. He has been unstoppable as of late, and shows no sign of slowing down. If you’re looking for the safest bet on the Champions League of Darts, this might be it.

Phil Taylor: 5/1

At 56 years of age, it’s remarkable that Phil Taylor is still considered one of the best darts players in the world. He has been a professional since 1986, and has won a staggering 215 professional tournaments, including 83 major titles and 16 World Championships.

Taylor has not won a major tournament title since 2013, but is always one of the most competitive players. He was beaten in the semi-finals of the UK Open by the aforementioned Michael van Gerwen, where he took 3rd place.

Taylor’s status as one of the best players in the world has not diminished over the years. He is always one of the top dogs in tournaments, and will be desperately hunting for his first major title in years. At 5/1, Taylor is an underdog, but shouldn’t be counted out.

Gary Anderson: 6/1

Gary “The Flying Scotsman” Anderson was predicted to be a future world champion darts player since his professional debut in 1995. In 2015, he made UK gambling news by proving this to be correct, winning the World Championship with a 7-6 lead over Phil Taylor. He followed that up the next year with another World Championship victory over Adrian Lewis.

Like all the players on this list, Anderson has won a number of major titles over the years. He has won the Premier League, World Matchplay, and the World Grand Prix from 2014 to 2016, and is looking to become the first ever Champion League of Darts winner next Saturday.

At 6/1, Anderson may have the most appealing odds of any player. He has been in top form as of late, winning the most prestigious darts tournament two years in a row. PaddyPower is giving players a great betting option here, so don’t hesitate to go with The Flying Scotsman.

Adrian Lewis: 14/1

Fans of professional darts may remember Adrian Lewis for his unfortunate incident during the 2005 Las Vegas Desert Classic. At that tournament, Lewis won a $72,000 jackpot, but was unable to claim the prize, as he was underage by US gambling laws.

Since that time, the Englishman has won a variety of major competitions, and was the runner-up during the World Championships in 2016. Lewis is one of the youngest players in this tournament, yet hardly lacks experience. For many years he was the protégé of Phil Taylor, but as they say, train until your idols become your rivals.

Lewis is technically an underdog heading into this tournament, but already a number of gamblers are heading to PaddyPower to take his odds of 14/1. Lewis had a great showing in the World Championship finals, losing by a narrow 7-5, proving he belongs at the top of the heap in professional darts.

Peter Wright: 16/1

The last option to bet on the Champions League of Darts that we will look at is another Englishman, Peter Wright. A professional since 1995, Wright has made a name for himself as a very competitive, although not always consistent darts player.

Peter Wright has not won any major titles as of late, but was the runner-up during the 2014 World Championships where he lost 7-4 to Michael van Gerwen. Next Saturday, he will be looking to notch the first major victory of his career.

It’s not much of a surprise that PaddyPower lists Wright as a 16/1 underdog to win the Champions League of Darts. He has been criticized for failing to “win the big matches,” but will surely aim to break that stigma next weekend.
