Just like in music, there is a big race between the TV programmes to win the Christmas rating. Most series and shows make special Christmas editions but the Queen’s Speech is also a top TV event. In the top Christmas Day program odds a period drama is the top favorite. Let’s see it and the other candidates.
This year, with limited options to go anywhere, surely more people will switch on the TV and watch it at Christmas. Traditionally there is a race going on between UK TV channels to win the ratings and attract the most number of viewers. Last year the Christmas special of the comedy TV show Gavin and Stacey won the race after 11,6 million people watched it. It was almost double than the 6,3 million viewers who watched the winner, the Queen’s Speech in the previous year. Which should be in the top programmes again in a year, when people do need some comforting words from Her Majesty.
Call the Midwife is the favorite in the top Christmas Day programme odds
Online sportsbooks in the UK offer the smallest odds, 1.725 for a popular British period drama, Call the Midwife to win this year’s rating. The series always appears in the top viewed programmes at Christmas. Last year it was 5th in the rating. But this time it can achieve an even better result with their special edition happening in 1965. A circus will come to town with Peter Davidson as the Ringmaster who might attract fans of Dr Who as well.

A mixture of the most loved acts will appear again, with the possible appearance of Susan Boyle. Still, the show has to compete with Call the Midfwife which might be too strong competition for Simon Cowell and co.

The winner in 2014, Mrs Browns Boys can be in the top watched programmes this year again.
