Hideki Matsuyama and Phil Mickelson winning have proved the Majors are by no means forgone conclusions. This year, everything is up for grabs. Everything. So, as online sportsbook sites in the US like Bovada assess who actually has a chance, you have some opportunities. They’re offering some really interesting prices on the tournament at Torrey Pines. However, whilst you’re choosing from the 2021 US Open odds on offer, you can bet on golf itself focusing elsewhere.

So, Bryson DeChambeau isn’t popular with his fellow players. They are irked because he’s turning golf from a game into a scientific pursuit. Golf sees his approach as far too clinical and far too time consuming. His endless assessments and calculations slow play considerably. So it won’t surprise anyone to know some of the other players dislike him. Of course, he’d point to his 2021 US Open odds and say they just don’t like effective competition. He may well have a point. Typically, this wouldn’t matter. He’d play his way, they’d play theirs. We’d all check the 2021 US Open odds and place our bets. Some they’d win, some he would. It’s sport. However, sport is now more than just playing a game. Alas, there’s the media to consider. Anyone who regularly puts a bet on sports in the US at Bovada etc will understand this. The press conferences and interviews, feature pieces, and background stories. Usually, this is saccharine laden and sanitized. But not always.

O Tempora, O Mores, Oh Bryson…….

So, someone leaked some footage of Brooks Koepka doing a bit of fluff with an interviewer. In the background, Bryson passes muttering, putting Brooks off. So Brooks then made his feelings about the situation and Bryson DeChambeau vocally obvious. He did not mince his words. This rendered the piece unbroadcastable and his views clarion. So, naturally, whilst we pour over the 2021 US Open odds looking for a winner, Golf is up in arms at this lack of public propriety.

The fake nicey-nicey presentation of sports is as patronizing as it is misleading. Pretending everyone respects each other, when clearly that’s impossible, is almost insulting. All sports attempt this to one degree or another. Golf is just the worst offender. People look over the 2021 US Open odds at online betting sites in the US like Bovada, as the sport desperately tries to overlook the personal conflicts. They go far out of their way to hide any sign of incivility.

Get that many egos in one place, all trying to win, and of course you get conflicts. Much as golf will clutch at its pearls about Bryson and Brooks, they may now have to change. They may need to be honest with us about those relationships, not pretend it’s all harmony all the time. We just don’t believe that anymore. If we ever did. We’ll find it easier to accept players disliking each other than the bookies will working out who should be ahead in their 2021 US Open odds.

We’re tired of watching players lobotomized by their PR consultants. All personality removed they are shadows of themselves. And dull shadows at that. If sports want to stay relevant as the world gets ever more digital they’re going to have to get real. Anyone in the US gambling laws of market control will keep the status quo viable are deluding themselves. Right now, things are wide open, as the 2021 US Open odds demonstrate, but just watch golf close down all dissent.
