Unikrn, a US-based video game gambling startup, has formed an all female pro eSports team made up of elite gamers from across the globe.

Unikrn has been gaining recognition in the professional video gaming industry as a platform that lets fans of eSports and internet gambling in US place bets on competitive matches. The Seattle company is now breaking new ground—for itself and in the industry—with its new all female pro eSports team.

This Tuesday Unikrn announced that, in collaboration with Australian sports gambling firm Luxbet, it’d created and sponsored Team Unikrn, a team made up of female gamers scouted from Greece, Germany, France, and the UK. Team Unikrn will play Counter-Strike: Global Offensive for a chance to win millions in global competitions.

All female pro eSports team challenges sexism, underrepresentation

An all female pro eSports team is big US gambling news for the sport, which has been steadily gaining in popularity with both men and women over the past few years but still deals with sexism. Just like the gaming and technology industry at large, women are underrepresented in eSports, and Unikrn wants to help close the gender gap.

Says Team Unikrn manager Neda Samimi on what the all female pro eSports team hopes to accomplish: “Althrough there are no impossible barriers for women to get into professional gaming, the communities tend to be male dominated, online bullying is everywhere, and sexism does exist. Known this, the broader community is very supportive of women in gaming, and I’m excited that Unikrn is using our platform to help create opportunities for female gamers.”

“In an ideal world, we’d see both me and women competing in the same teams, with and against each other, that’s the future of eSports. Team Unikrn is all about professional competition and hopefully it inspires other women to take the step and build a career around eSpots,” adds Unikrn CEO Rahul Sood.
