What is WPT?

If you happen to be a beginner in the world of high-stakes poker, you may be wondering about the difference between the World Poker Tour and the World Series of Poker. The World Poker Tour (WPT) is a series of international poker tournaments broadcast on television. It was started in 2002 by Steve Lipscomb and co-founded by Lyle Berman. The WPT tournaments feature some of the best professional poker players competing for substantial prize pools. The WPT has helped popularise poker as a spectator sport, with its televised events showcasing the excitement and strategic depth of the game. The tournaments are held in various locations around the world, including prominent casino destinations like Las Vegas, Atlantic City, and other major cities. The main event of the World Poker Tour is the WPT Championship, which crowns each season’s champion. The WPT also includes other events like the WPT Main Tour, WPT DeepStacks, and the WPT Online series, which are held at online poker sites in Macau. These events offer many buy-ins and formats catering to players and enthusiasts.

World Poker Tour Macau 2024: When & where?

The World Poker Tour is preparing to hold a popular poker festival in the People’s Republic of China, marking a notable milestone. This is the first time in Macau’s history that such an event is held on its territory. Before 2024, poker enthusiasts from Macau could only follow and participate in poker events remotely at Everygame and other sites. The Main Tour season of the World Poker Tour Macau 2024 is currently in progress, featuring various events. On March 23rd, the $3,500 buy-in WPT Rolling Thunder Championship occurred at Thunder Valley Casino Resort in Northern California. This event preceded the upcoming WPT Voyage, a poker cruise to the Bahamas scheduled for March 31-April 6. Before heading to Macau, the Main Tour will have two additional stops, including the WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown Championship on April 19th and the WPT Choctaw Championship on May 3rd. The WPT Macau Festival will be held from June 18th to 24th, with two main events, the WPT Championship and WPT High Roller, taking place from June 20th to 24th and June 19th and 20th, respectively.

How to enroll in the WPT 2023

The Festival features a prominent HK$40,000 (approximately US $5,100) buy-in for the WPT Championship event. Additionally, an esteemed World Poker Tour Macau 2024 High Roller event with a buy-in of HK$200,000 (around US $25,600). The prize poll is yet to be announced. Players have multiple pathways to qualify for the WPT Championship, which is the entry-level event. These include online qualifiers through ClubWPT and WPT Global, as well as in-person satellites hosted at Wynn Macau and WPT Casino Partners. With these diverse options, you can secure your spot in the WPT Championship held at Wynn Macau. Do you prefer to play poker from home?
