  • Musc Health Women’s Open is held 12-18 April in Charleston
  • The WTA 250 event follows last week’s Volvo Open held in the same location
  • Tunisian Ons Jabeur and American Shelby Rogers are the top favorites

This is the first time that Charleston is holding a second, smaller tournament for women tennis players. The Musc Health Women’s Open in the Family Circle Tennis Center between the 12th and 18th of April. Even though top 10 players are not competing in the event, we can find great players in the field. Like world No28 Ons Jabeur who is also the top favorite in the WTA Charleston winner odds.

The Musc Health Women’s Open is a new tournament organized in Charleston for the first time this year. The WTA 250 even follows the more famous Volvo Open also held in the town with several players taking part in both now. As it is played on clay courts the tournament offers another opportunity to prepare for the big event of the clay season, the 2021 Roland Garros. After the withdrawal of several players Tunisian Ons Jabeur has become the top seed and the biggest favorite to win the title. But we can find several other players with similar capabilities and results. So let’s see who else can get the trophy at the Family Circle Tennis Center on Sunday.

WTA Charleston winner odds mention Jabeur and Rogers as top favorites

Ons Jabeur has reached the quarter-finals of the 2020 Australian Open and the final of the 2018 Kremlin Cup. So even though she hasn’t got any WTA win yet, the Tunisian player is the top favorite in the WTA Charleston winner odds. Jabeur is also the top-ranked player in the tournament with her 28th place which also makes her the highest-ranked Arab player in the sport’s history. She starts the Open against Swiss Stefanie Vogele with the odds of 1.144 to go through.

Her biggest rival can be US player Shelby Rogers who is already in the second round after beating fellow American Catherine McNally in two straight sets. The world No52 also reached the quarter-finals of a grand slam tournament twice. In the 2016 French Open and last year in the US Open. The 28-year-old is also without a WTA win yet, but has 6 titles in the ITF Circuit. Rogers is from Charleston which might give her some extra power to get her first win. Online sportsbooks in the US offer the odds of 4.98 for her victory.

Cornet and Tomljanovic in other seeded players

French Alize Cornet is the fourth seed of the tournament who should win easily against Czech wildcard Linda Fruhvirtova in the first round. Cornet has six WTA titles with most of her wins coming from clay courts. She reached her career best ranking, 11th place in 2009 but at the moment she is only in 59th place. Her last win is from the 2018 Swiss Open but she reached the 4th round in last year’s US Open. While Cornet also played in last week’s Volvo Open where she lost against Jabeur in the last 16.

Online gambling sites in the US also mention Ajla Tomljanovic with a chance to win the event. The Australian player also reached the last 16 in the WTA 500 event last week but she lost eventually against American Sloane Stephens. Tomljanovic was a successful junior player reaching the No4 spot in the world ranking. But she hasn’t achieved similar results as an adult, even though she played in four WTA Tour finals. Now the Croatian-born player is already through to the second round where she will meet Danish Clara Tauson. Her odds to win the game is 1.74 on 22Bet.
