  • Upper Austria Ladies Linz is held this week in Austria
  • This is the last WTA Tour event of the season
  • Aryna Sabalenka is the favorite ahead of her doubles partner Elise Mertens

The indoor women’s tennis tournament of the Linz Open is held this week in Austria. It is the last women’s competition of the 2020 season so a few top players are also taking part in it. American Coco Gauff is the defending champion but she won’t play this season. In the WTA Linz winner odds Belarusian Aryna Savalenka is the favorite who can get back-to-back victories after her triumph at Ostrava.

This year’s Upper Austria Ladies Linz, or simply the 2020 Linz Open will be the 30th edition of the indoor women’s tennis tournament. It is part of the WTA Tour and actually the last competition of the season. In the previous winners of the tournament we can find lots of great players from Lindsay Davenport to Maria Sharapova. But Petra Kvitova, Angelique Kerber and Karolina Pliskova also won here before. Defending champion Coco Gauff is not playing this year. But we have world No11 Aryna Sabalenka and world No21 Elise Mertens in the participating players.

Aryna Sabalenka has already won two titles this season and is aiming for her third one now in Linz. Her first victory of the season came back in February at the Qatar Open. There she defeated Petra Kvitova in the final. And even though she hasn’t performed that well in the Grand Slams, she won the Ostrava Open 3 weeks ago. There Sabalenka could defeat her countrywoman Victoria Azarenka who has been in great form recently. So it’s not surprising that online sportsbooks in Austria offer the smallest odds, 3.94 for her victory in the WTA Linz winner odds.

Interestingly her biggest rival can be her doubles partner, Belgian Elise Mertens, who has the odds of 4.50 to win the tournament. They won the 2019 US Open and several other tournaments together, but Mertens also performed well in singles in this year’s US Open. She got to the quarter-finals just like in the previous year after knocking out Sofia Kenin in the last 16. The world No21 player also reached the final of the Prague Open in singles and just won the doubles title in Ostrava. She is the second seed in Linz and can meet Sabalenka in the final if she can go all the way.

Russian players are also in the favorites

While Russian men tennis players are doing great nowadays, we could hear less about the women. It might change now, as we can find two Russian players in the favorites. Online gambling sites in Austria mention Ekaterina Alexandrova first with the odds of 5.00. The 25-year-old player won her first singles WTA title at the beginning of the year at the Shenzhen Open in China. She defeated former world No1 Gabriel Muguruza and Elena Rybakina during the competition. Alexandrova also played in the Russian team at the Fed Cup qualifying against Romania. With two wins she helped her team to get to the finals. But since the restart of the sport she couldn’t deliver good results and consecutive wins.

Veronika Kudermetova was Alexandrova’s  teammate in the Fed Cup, but she lost both of her games. The world No46 hasn’t won any WTA singles titles yet, but has a doubles title from the 2019 Wuhan Open. And now she might have a chance to win here now as the 5th seed of the Open. She will start on Wednesday against local favorite Barbara Haas who has been awarded a wildcard. Kudermetova is the massive favorite to win the game with the odds of 1.15 on 22Bet.
